Compare to almost all politcal speech today. Look how cleanly and clearly the rhetor (TJ) makes his case. Look at the specificity of the complaint, the power of the categoria.  Read for Jefferson's use of isocolon. In the list of abuses, look at Jefferson's use of verbs and verbals.

If you are really up for some critical thinking, try to imagine what Thomas Jefferson would be doing today as a reaction to the policies of the current administration. Would he appearing in solidarity with co-Presidents Bush, Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld. Or would he be marshalling his own finances for a run at the White House, calling for change? How would TJ think of the ATT wiretapping? Write your response in 1000 words or less. Be specific.
