| Monday, 5/23/2005 What a weekend!! Congratulations to all the Marist Graduates!! Pictures will be posted very soon. Bring on the parties!! I'm going out tonight to celebrate the end of the semester!! My sunburn really hurts. Ciao!! .~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~. Friday, 5/20/2005 Would the students please just go home!! We can't get them to do any work during the semester, but when we tell them we're "closing up shop", "but but but wait, I have all this stuff I have to finish... please give me an extension, I have to get this show/project/footage done/saved." And I'm thinking "Who are you and where have you been this entire semester?" *sigh* Today is the last day, they have to either move out tomorrow and/or graduate on Sunday. The student that was refusing to turn in her keys finally mailed them to me. No frozen account, no new locks and keys... can we charge an aggrivation fee? I think that should be allowed. Senior week for Joe means Sleep Deprivation Week for me. It's been tons of fun hanging out with him and friends though. We're usually awake until 2-3am, but unlike Joe that can sleep in until noon, I'm awake and at work by 9:30am. Joe and I, with Joe's friends Topher and Alex, and my friends Brian and Ralph, saw Star Wars at midnight on Wednesday night. It was so fantastic! And Yoda kicks some serious butt!! So great! Joe was feeling really sick last night though... sore throat, congestion, sneezing. So I took him some medicine, sent him to bed, and packed up some more of his stuff while he slept. Good news though, he got a call back from the landlord for a 2 bedroom apt. that he wanted, and the landlord gave it to him for the rent price he was asking for! Yay!! Joe has a place to live!! He's going to sign the lease today before graduation rehearsal. Then this weekend, after graduation and before Anthony's graduation party, he'll start moving his stuff into the apt. I'm so happy for him, he was really starting to stress out about it. It sucks so bad that I have to work this weekend, because I can't help him move any of his stuff because I'll be catching up on sleep. Ugh. Brian's going away reception was yesterday, and it's getting a little sad. He makes me laugh so much, but also helps to keep things in perspective when the stresses of working in higher education are getting to me. We don't know where he's going or what he's doing yet, but I have my theories. *wink* Last night was also Joe's college's formal, and as I was walking across campus, I swear I felt like I was back in high school and everyone was going to prom. It was like prom for the 22 & 23 year olds that never grew up. Tuxedos, gowns, corsages, boutineres, limos (yeah, craziness). Thank you very much Joe for not wanting to go. ;) Alright... time to get back to work... where did that number for the golf cart repair center go? Ciao! .~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~.~*~. Monday, 5/16/2005 *phew* What a long week! Wednesday was probably the absolute worst day of work ever. The radio luncheon was awesome, and the entire e-board was there, so I got some great pictures. Before we had left, we made a couple executive decisions to teach some lessons to a few slow learning tv members about how to be responsible for very expensive camera equipment. Well, after getting back, there were some very upset students that had their pride hurt because they don't know how to handle criticism and chastizement. There was a lot of arguing, accusing, yelling between students and some yelling between a student and Bill. This same student also completely disrespected both me and Elkyn, so all bets were off. It's been a big mess since then, especially since this student is now refusing to turn in keys. This is a very bad decision because as per the contract that she signed, if she doesn't turn in her keys, her account will be frozen. At this college, if your account is frozen, you're pretty much screwed. And if she doesn't turn in her keys before we have to change the locks, then she'll have to pay that charge too, which I'm suspecting will be around $300-$400. All because she's too stubborn and her pride is too hurt. Damn, how foolish. Joe is officially finished with all his school work, and now he gets to kick back for the next week and party before graduation on Sat. Must be nice, UMBC would never have done that for seniors... probably because someone would have done something stupid and ended up dead. This past weekend was a little crazy for work because one of the dispatchers got bitten by a tick and now has lime disease. So the schedule got shuffled around and I ended up working Friday night and then again Saturday evening. But it worked out well and now they know that I'm flexible as long as I don't have other plans. Yesterday was the 4 year anniversary since my paternal grandmother past away. Still, even though it's been 4 years, every time I think about her I tear up. It's still so hard. I called my grandfather, and he's been having some health problems too and I wish so much that he lived closer than 7 hours away. I never got a chance to say good bye to my grandmother because she never told anyone that she was sick, I don't want to lose anyone in my family that way again. He's going to the hospital for some more tests in a week, hopefully everything will come back ok. Everything is winding down this week. Students are finishing up projects, pushing their time limits to the max. and beyond, but I guess I'd rather have them working on and finishing up rather than not doing anything at all. And I watched a students film project earlier and the shots are framed up really well and very professionally. His transitions are smooth and matching emotions with appropriate music was done very well and it's artistically challenging. I was very pleased with the results. Hopefully he will go far in the industry. Well, that's about it for me... or all that I really want to go into right now. Ciao! |
