| Monday, 11/15/2004 Though the parties were plentiful this weekend, I decided to stay home. Friday night I went to this great chinese place with Mike for dinner but then afterwards he went to Albany and Joe came over and we hung out/relaxed for a while. Even though there was a thing at Sherri's (poker and cheap beer) we decided not to go. Saturday I went into the city and spent the better part of the day there. I saw the DEA exhibit (which was the whole point of going) and then had lunch at the Olive Garden in Times Square. A couple other people (whom I had never met before this trip) and I went to see the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center and then walked around, went into some of the stores, etc. Saturday night I chilled at Joe's townhouse while he worked on the mounds of homework he had to do. Eventually, around 12am, I went back to my apt. and crashed on the futon. I slept on and off almost the entire day on Sunday... I was so exhausted. But apparently it did a world of good because I've been cranky the past few days and catching up on sleep helped a lot. I stayed up until 1:30am watching "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" marathon. I guess when you sleep all day, it's hard to go to bed at night. But hey, it was fun, and even though I was dragging some this morning, it was a good weekend. BTW, for those of you who don't like "cheese", stop reading now... I just want to say that my boyfriend is the most brilliant, incredible, exciting, patient, sensitive, and perfect person I've ever known. He does so much, not just for me, but for everyone, and most importantly... seeing him makes me want to be a better person to everyone I know. Thank you Joe! Ciao! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Thursday, 11/11/2004 This is going to be a relatively short entry, but I'd just like to chronicle the adventures of squirrel chasing (experienced by select members of the Campus Media Center, College Activities, and the Student Association). Tuesday night, around 4:30pm, I was upstairs introducing a new TV interest to a fellow student producer when I saw a something that looked gray and furry dart by the door. I thought it might have been a cat, but then after I walked out of the room, it ran past me and darted down the hallway into one of the empty meeting rooms. And it was definitely a squirrel. Oh well, I was busy with this student so I didn't pay it much mind... but when I went back upstairs 10 min. later, the squirrel had been trapped in the meeting room, and Elkyn and the radio local news director were in the room trying to catch it. Brilliantly, the squirrel chose a room with floor to ceiling windows so spectators could watch the fiasco from the hallway. And of course, Mel had her digital camera readily available, and proceeded to take pictures and video tape the process. Over the course of the next 30 min., Brian and Dave from college activities showed up and tried to help. A couple other people from the Student Association whom I don't know came to help also, but it was much more amusing to us to watch them. Eventually the squirrel climbed into the window heater and we all thought it was stuck. Elkyn got his tools and opened up the front panel of the heater and the squirrel jumped out, but then ran back in and didn't come back out. We waited and waited but it was gone. There must be a hole somewhere behind the radiator and it got out that way. Though when all was said and done, everyone felt that it had been a successful team building exercise and that we should be proud of our inter-departmental bonding time. I personally think that it successfully allowed grown men to revert to their primal 10 year old instincts, but that's just my spin on it. Though today I found out that there was another squirrel trapped upstairs in a different room. Apparently this one did the same thing the last one did and climbed out through a hole in the radiator. That one was much less dramatic, though it did decide to climb up and sit on top of Bill's shoe. At least it didn't climb up his leg. Anyways, as soon as I can get the pictures from Mel, they will be posted on my website for everyone to see. Ok, that's the fun and excitement that's been going on around the office. Ciao! ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Monday, 11/8/2004 Yay! It's Monday!! *groan* I'm so tired today, I really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. I tried catching up on sleep this weekend, and it helped, but I still think I'm so far depleated that it will take some time to recooperate. And my grandmother called me this morning on my cell phone @ 6:15am! What the heck? I heard the phone ring, but I didn't have the strength to get up and answer it. Luckily it wasn't an emergency. I listened to the voicemail message later and she was hoping that I would already be awake for work. Election Day was fun at work... it was kinda crazy because a lot was happening on campus and since we're radio and tv, there has to be media coverage of these events. I stayed late at work every night last week, and by Friday I was dead on my feet. I went to the radio e-board meeting Friday afternoon and I seriously thought I was going to fall asleep while standing. Have you ever gotten to the point where you're so tired that you're not even hungry anymore? That was me. Luckily, Joe took me to Giacomo's (incredible italian place) and made me eat (had I mentioned that the only thing I'd eaten all day on Friday was a giant chocolate chip cookie). Then I passed out, but at least I'd finally eaten. Anyways, Sherri came over to see my apt. on Tuesday night, and she loves it!! She wants to help me decorate, but first I have to finish unpacking and organizing everything. Joe's parents are so great because they brought a wooden stereo cabinet with shelves in it up to NY so I can put books and such in it. Thursday night I tried a local delicacy... pumpkin ale. Mike and I went to the Guilded Otter in the village, great food. Bill also told me that in the summertime they have blueberry ale. Sounds, umm... interesting. Anyways, I also saw "The Whole Ten Yards". It was ok, but I like the first movie better. I also saw "Birth" on Saturday with Sherri and Greg. It wasn't that good. I really don't like movies where there's long pauses in between each sentence in the dialog, or where the transitions between scenes are really slow. Anyways, it was a 2 hour movie and it probably could have been cut down to 1.5 if the pace had sped up just a little more. But it was good to hang out with friends, so it was still worth it. I really need to do laundry. I just hate going to laundromats. Just like I hate washing dishes by hand. Oh yeah, Saturday night I was making dinner and I've gotten to like cooking chicken on the stove top in a skillet. Anyways, I didn't realize it, but something about the way I was cooking the chicken this time put off a lot of smoke. So I had to open up the windows and hope that the smoke detector didn't go off. Luckily it didn't, but now I have to wonder if it even works. Joys. Ok, I'm in desperate need of some coffee... and maybe a muffin. Anyways, I'm going downstairs to Jazzman's and see what's available. I'll write more in a few days. Ciao! ps - I can't believe I forgot to mention this! (I must have been really tired.) I saw "The Incredibles" on Saturday with Joe! Such a good movie, great animation, 2 solid hours... I highly recommend going to a later showing where there'll be less kids. I remember someone once mentioning something about an adults only movie theater... I would endorse that. ;) But yeah, very entertaining! |
