Jimi's death was a fatal blow to the 60s counter-culture experiment. His own struggles to escape the traps of racial and sexual conventions, and his personal demons, inspired most of his songs. Unlike punk rockers of the late 70s (counter-culture's death rattle), he wasn't a nihilist. He proposed an alternative way of life, starting fresh like the New Rising Sun. He understood a better world couldn't be a static Utopia - Jimi recognized the need for growth and change by pushing The name netSperience was inspired by Jimi's first album Are You Experienced? Most people think the phrase referred to the LSD experience, but I think it meant really examining yourself and your role in the world, and breaking free of the artificial and self-imposed limits we all take for granted, our own Thank you, Jimi, for helping me understand the possibilities of freedom, self-expression, and love. |
