| UP AGAINST THE WAR This customizable script periodically replaces the title, status bar, and form element values with various anti-war quotes, and also changes the bg & text colors. You may also choose to temporarily replace all the images. After the brief "protest" display, all original values are restored. An on/off feature is provided to prevent viewer frustration. UNCLE SAM'S AUNTIE (anti-war quote quiz) The quotes are split into the actual quote, and who said it. Then, they are rearranged each time the game is played. Multiple choice answers are randomly selected for each quote. Thus, the quotes and answers are never the same. These JavaScripts were created by Randall Goya for netSperience ©2003. | A Canadian sent me a message complaining that protests tie up traffic and disrupt his life. He is against war, but doesn't believe civil action can stop it. It is too late to stop the military action in Iraq - but what about the aftermath, which could very well be more dangerous than the war itself? Bush inherited a "Get Saddam Free" card from his daddy, but, like the simple child in the Passover seder, he is not equipped to understand the consequences of so radically altering the status quo in the Middle East. For many generations, caution has informed the decisions of the diplomats dealing with the region's issues. The latest reports indicate that Islamic fundamentalists are quickly moving to fill the power vacuum created by the sudden removal of the Baathist regime. Many Iraquis favor establishing a religious state like Iran. Will Bush & Co. let this happen without further military repression? Bush's own fundamental Christian beliefs are particularly alarming; Armageddon is not necessarily undesireable. As an American, I am sickened by the unethical use of our country's military force, in opposition to the United Nations and many of our allies. Even more appalling, our Senators and Representatives ceded their Constitutional authority to declare war to a President who lost the general election. After the invasion, Congress made a point of denying Bush carte blanche in spending the money they appropriated to pay for the war. Big deal. The United States is in an historically unprecedented position of military and economic dominance. What worries me is the cultural, ethical and political bankruptcy at the core of our nation. Bush damaged our government's diplomatic credibility by rushing into this war, with questionable motives. He could very well be laying the foundation for the decline and fall of the American Empire. How long will it take for the economically struggling citizens of this nation to question the cost, financial and moral, of this administration's policy? Perhaps never - and that is the reason that we must continue to demonstrate, protest, educate, and spread the idea that there is an alternative. It took many years for the conflict in Vietnam to become untenable to our leaders. The anti-war movement certainly helped end that undeclared war. I felt very powerless, and hopeless, in the weeks just before the military actually entered Iraq. I created these JavaScripts so that anyone who wants to show opposition, to stand UP AGAINST THE WAR, can easily add these dramatic effects to any web page, without altering the original page. And, perhaps, some visitors who read these anti-war quotes will actually think about them, and start to question the sanity of our leaders. Right now, peace has a snowball's chance in Hell; but why not launch a snowball of peace, and hope it gains momentum and mass until it becomes unstoppable? |
