Week Four Day One
The start of a new week
and a few new members are added, Lilly passes the tests and enters the enforces
as Rank 9 while Alex, a replacement for Ashley simply accompanies them. Today
they are given an assignment and are told to report to a business building
where they will be further informed. Upon arriving at the job site via public transport,
they are greeted at the door by a lone buck in a suit. He lets them know the
job is a routine extermination as the building has been infested with glings.
While the employees have been evacuated there are two groups of note still in
the floors above. One is a second group of enforces who arrived shortly before
they did who also have the same job, the second are members of the security
team of the business itself. They are also told that there is an incentive to
do well, as the team that brings the most evidence of kills (horns) will be
given a cash bonus in addition to their normal pay and bonuses. A simple plan
is made to get above the other team that is most likely starting from lower
floors and working up. They decide to take the elevator but opt to climb the
shaft using spider climb cast by Lilly. During their accent they come
across three glings in the shaft which being to move down towards them. Needing
a bit of solid ground to work with, they force a door open while a few of the
group cover them. Stepping out onto floor two, they turn and begin to fire.
There are but three glings to contest with and this fight ends quickly, the
glings falling to the bottom of the shaft. While they are on floor two, Jeff
and Marakin split off from the group to pursue a group of four glings to add to
their total. Regrouping, enter a stairwell and block the door so the other team
will have more difficulty moving about. Reaching the third level the group
spits up once again, Kalawac and Krystal, Jeff with Rose, Lilly, Marakin and
Alex. The larger group makes its way down a separate hallway and soon find
themselves in a cafeteria where they find two doe's, members of the security
force fighting off glings near the fridge in the back. They aid these two
security personal in fighting the glings and claim the horns. The fridge is
found to contain pudding, which the two doe's, Rose and Lilly help themselves
to. Meanwhile, Kalawac and Krystal make their way to a storage room containing
stacked tiers of a rather large size. They seem large enough to be for vehicles
meant for heavy work, perhaps in the agricultural industry. Looking around
quickly they do not notice any glings, but moments later one appears over the
top of one of the tier stacks holding a primed grenade. Acting fast before it
can toss it, Kalawac fires and knocks the gling down the center of the stack of
tiers which takes the brunt of the blast. Searching the room a little more they
find an air duct near the floor with a near empty box of grenades near it. From
within the duct can be heard the scratching of claws as the glings move about,
some of which may also have grenades. Kalawack and Krystal work to block the
vent with some of the available tiers before the glings arrive. With that route
blocked the two move to exit the room where upon they find that the glings have
already begun to exit a duct in the hall outside the door and are waiting for
them. Kalawac tosses one of the grenades found in the box into the hall and
closes the door. The blast clears many of them but more continue to come from
the vent. As Kalawac and Krystal get ready to fight their way out Jeff arrives
and lends some aid. Caught between the two forces the glings fall quickly with
no harm scored to the group. Once back together the search continues taking
them to yet another storage room, this time filled with towels. No threat being
found here they return to the stairs and continue up to the next floor using
the elevator shaft again. This is the first floor that has any windows, which
is a bit surprising because no windows were seen from the outside. The whole
perimeter of the floor is lined with large windows which are coloured on one
side to resemble the rest of the building. Instead of finding something worth
hiding they find a floor consisting of one large room, windows all around and
the floor filled with varied sized metal pipes. Deciding it would be best if
someone were to scout the area out first seeing as visibility was short due to
all the stacks of pipes, Jeff heads out. He soon comes across what he is
looking for, a lone gling sits upon a rather large stack of pipes. He alerts
his group and then moves in, Rose sneaking around the other side. As Jeff
approaches the gling cuts the bindings to the pipes with a claw swipe and takes
to the air, letting the pipes roll like so many logs to crush Jeff. Jeff avoids
the pipes and a counter lethal attack is launched against the gling. Meanwhile,
back near the door they came up through where Kalawac and Krystal are staying
as lookouts, Kalawac can hear a scratching sound coming from around the side of
the elevator column. Upon investigation it is found that five glings are
crawling across the wall toward them, perhaps to attack from behind. As only
Kalawac and Krystal are in the area, they have to fight alone until help
arrives. Kalawac manages to fight them off well enough, but Krystal is hit
critically after stunning one with her tazer and crumples to the floor
bleeding. Help arrives soon and the glings are dispatched. Krystal is clearly
in a lot of trouble and does not seem to be able to move much. Alex uses his
healing skills to stabilize her while the rest of the party has her drink a
series of healing potions. After some moments rest along with aid, Krystal
regains enough strength to move on her own. The group decided that they should
return to the precinct as Krystal was still wounded enough to be in danger.
Krystal insisted that they would not fail and should continue their work, so on
they went. After regrouping they head back to the elevator door and prepare to
ascend. From inside the shaft came a scratching sound, a "plink" and
out popped a primed grenade which landed at Krystal's feet. Looking down,
exasperated, she exclaimed "such a day I'm having" and kicked the grenade
back into the shaft. A moment later it detonates, to be followed by the sound
of glings in the shaft beginning their attack. These ones seem to have been
affected by the blast and fell easily, allowing the team to continue. Deciding
that the route they are taking may only lead to slow going and ambush, they opt
to break out a window and scale the outside wall using spider climb again.
Skipping the interior hazards the move up the remaining floors to the top,
where the find a veritable swarm of dozens of glings. Creeping up to the rim of
the roof, a few peer over to see what is going on up there. Above in the air
the swarm flies, below them stands a five-foot tall creature with purple fur,
seeming to be the biggest gling they ever saw. Without a lot of time to think
one decides to toss a grenade at it just before ducking below the rim for
safety. Almost immediately a strong wind kicks up blowing both the grenade and
a number of glings from the rooftop. A few of them are blown quite a ways off,
while eight recover and swoop down to attack. Once again relying upon their
hand cannons they manage to fight the glings off well enough to wound them to
the point they are no longer able to fly, sending them plummeting to the street
below. Having the choice of either waiting suck to the walls to fight dozens
more and risk falling, or climbing up to face them, they opt to climb. Alex
takes the lead and tries to talk to the larger gling which begins to approach
them. Upon closer inspection this gling is different, it is able to speak and
has a "developed" chest; glings are not known to have any gender. Its
voice seems feminine and it seems reasonable enough to bargain with. In the
discussion it is discovered that this creature was paid to have documents and
equipment of this building damaged. Alex, noting that this creature speaks in
money, tried and successfully managed to pay it off for a handful of hundred
wafers to leave. Calling its remaining forces back, it is carried aloft by a
squad of glings and departs with them by air. The team, having now purged the
building of glings, heads back down to the front entrance to pit their
collected horns against those of the other team. They come in with 35 in total,
beating the other team's 28 and so take home the bonus of five-hundred wafers
which they divide up among themselves. The day being done, they all return to
their homes to prepare for tomorrow.
Week Four, Day two
Starting out as a
fairly uneventful day on patrol, Krystal received a message stating that there
was a situation near their section that they were to investigate. It seemed a
citizen had called in saying there was "something strange" in his
backyard. Making their way to the address provided they find the house empty of
its owners. Moving into the back they soon find what it was they were sent to
investigate. It seems a red puddle of goo had moved into the back yard area and
had caused what appeared to be acid damage to some of the surroundings. Upon
closer examination, the puddle began to move, directly toward the group of enforcers.
Feeling no pressing need to go into careful study, a range of efforts are tried
to stop or slow it down, from firing shots at it to tossing just about anything
that could plausibly work at it. Slugs, fire, acid, nothing seemed to work.
Needing a moment to think this out the group make a retreat for the back door
of the nearby house and close the door behind them. The oozing thing makes it
way toward the house and presses itself up against the walls near a window.
While most of the group ponders what else they can throw at it, Rose attempts
to use the water hose from next door to see if water will wash it away or
something. As she goes about to make the attempt, Kalawac tells Krystal he has
an idea and is going out and to keep everyone safe inside. Going out the front
door, he moves out around the fence next door and gets up on the roof, planning
on a little pay back to Rose for being pest to him. Loading a round, he takes
aim at Rose and yells "HEY ROSE", getting her to turn around. He
fires and hits, knocking her clean from the fence and into the yard with the
red ooze. Rose struggles to her feet and screams "Kalawac is trying to
kill me". He fires again before she can get far, and this shot finishes
her. Lilly, hearing the commotion, runs out to get to Rose, hoping to save some
of her equipment for herself. Unfortunately, the ooze blocks the way and Lilly
is forced to abandon the body. It seems no one was sorry to see Rose go, and
Krystal simply calls in saying they have a member down, and can't handle the
situation. They leave the area before the ooze finds a way in the house and
leave it for a more capable team. The rest of the day is spent rather quietly,
continuing patrol till their shift is over upon which they return home.
Week Four Day Three
Given an easy time
today, the group is assigned to patrol a park area. The patrol is uneventful
and relaxing in comparison to the previous few days, essentially adding up to a
free days pay. At the end of the day, Kalawac and Krystal go out for a rather
classy and expensive meal: Starfruit Bread 700G, Marshae Wine 250G, Appitizer
17G, Desert 35G for a total of 1360G. After the night out, Kalawac and Krystal
return to her apartment where Krystal shows Kalawac a cabinet in which there
are rocks warmed by lights. Within are endolithic plant cells that may have a
therapeutic effect for a bit of life drain Lilly suffered the day before when
they encountered the red ooze.
Week Four Day Four
Today the group is
slated to patrol a commercial area, full of shops, vendors and other
establishments. While patrolling the area the team is called in to investigate
a mob that has formed in front of a grocer. Asking a few questions it is found
out that the mob is composed of the employees of the store, who are upset that
their employer has withheld their pay. Entering the store they find that the
manager is alone and manning the tills although the store itself is devoid of
customers. The manager explains that he is withholding pay until his employees
put goods they moved out of place back where they are supposed to be. It seems
some of the employees had moved the butter from the cool section to beside the
baked goods and put gardening implements in the cool section in their place.
The section with the baked goods now had the smell of warm butter thick in the
air, making the does mouths water and the bucks eyes water. The who
"strike" as planned by Vanessa, the managers niece, whom he could not
simply fire, who was put in charge of the stocking of shelves. Jasper and Lilly
managed to disperse the mob by threatening to issue tickets for congregating in
groups larger than five, and the manager is advised to take care of this
family/business dispute quickly. Leaving the area, Kalawac later enters a used
goods store and purchases a pair of mitts in a wooden box that were said to
have been some sort of graduation present once. The mitts are actually very
fuzzy white gloves with a slight magical aura, for what is unknown. Jasper and
Lilly go out for a bit of ice cream, paying 3G each, a lot of ice cream.
Kalawac seaches for three plants Krystal wants: Kalendos, Vesta, Onha.
Week Four Day Five
Yet another day
destined to be uneventful, simple patrol in an industrial area. Jasper and
Lilly do go out for a rather extended lunch, however, running 6G each.
Week Four Day Six Day Off
With some time off from
work, the group does a little personal work.
Jeffery signs a contract with a bank for an
account, starting balance of 1,000 G with 5% annual interest.
Lilly studies the spell True Strike.
Kalawac is confronted and attacked by the ghost
of Marcus, failing a will save against an attack and becoming accursed (-2 to
saves/checks/to hit rolls, -4 to Con +4 to Str, all hits upon him are
critical).
The curse begins to spread to other members of
the group soon after.
Kalawac adds some funds of his own to improve
the stocks obtained from the tomb of Marcus (adding 2,000 to the current
21,330G worth, brining it to 23,330G).
Jasper shops for spell components: Two
Alexandrite, One Amethyst, Four Black Pearls, Three Aquamarines, Four Diamonds
and Five Sapphires.
Marakin goes to the Empty Heart and Lonely Hearts looking for O' Laura.
