Habbinashi
Habbinashi are tiny bug-like beings that inhabit the astral plane, each one varies in its appearance but they typically have but two claw-like arms and a pair of wing-like appendages. These appendages pull them in the direction of sources of psychic energy and activity rather than push, the stronger the source the greater the pull. Other than their claws and "wings" they have no other limbs such as legs as there is no place for them to set down in their home plane.
Habbinashi sustain themselves upon the latent psychic energy of sentient beings or upon stored sources found in various items and places. If they find a rather rich source, as would be found in an individual with good psychic potential but never learned to use it, they may stay in close proximity and sort of make that individual their home. Once they have decided upon their host, they will actively defend it from other habbinashi so that they may keep their host for themselves. Because of this fact one is not likely to be fed upon by more than one habbinashi at a time.
The presence of a habbinashi may have some side-effects on its host which will only strengthen as the habbinashi grows in power. In order to grow (rather than simply subsist) a habbinashi must consume a part of a sentient creature, meaning they permanently devourer a portion of a creatures psionic strength pool. As it grows it draws more and more psychic energies from its host to sustain itself. This normally equalizes at the point where the host regains his energy back at about the same rate the habbinashi takes it. If the host loses the capacity to adequately provide enough psychic energy to sustain the habbinashi, it will leave to find a more suitable host, thus the greater the level of psychic energy an individual possesses the easier he can maintain a larger habbinashi.
Using binding rituals habbinashi can be bound to a gemstone or any other object that astral beings can inhabit, and in this way an individual can "own" a habbinashi. It is also possible to bind one as a familiar should one have access to the proper methods. A habbinashi familiar may not stray far from its master and lacks the intellect to be much of a conversationalist.
Common Varieties of Habbinashi
Bulwark: Provides a deflection bonus to Armour Class and a 1 point bonus to Wisdom for each of its levels.
Perception: Tends to reveal the veiled within its influence and grants +1 Charisma per level.
Know Direction, Comprehend Languages, Detect Magic, Light, Detect Secret Doors, See Invisible, All Round Sight, Blind Light, True seeing
Vivacity: Provides a +1 Divine bonus to saving throws against poison, disease, life force attacks and ability damage/drain. Grants a one point bonus to Constitution. for each of its levels.
Puncture: Adds +1 to your attack rolls and DC to save vs. your spells. Grants a one point bonus to Strength for each of its levels.
Inspiration: Grants +1Divine bonus to your each of your skills and Intelligence score for each of its levels.
Reprisal: Deals d6/ level subdual damage to one target within five feet for each level it possesses. Grants a +1 Divine bonus to Dexterity for each of its levels.
