The Player
Characters
In order of appearance, more or
less.
Ashley
Strange as this is,
Ashley is the ONLY player character fighter in the group. Although only level
one, Ashley seems to have chosen blades as an area of expertise. Though a lack of both tactics and luck Ashley has not had much
success in combat. Ashley's player has had a some
problems deciding what path to take from here, this could get interesting.
Ashley lives in the same place as Jeffery, Rose and Krystal.
Ashley was later
retired in favour of a new character, Alex.
The son
of Jack Dalfoe (now deceased) and Anne Folker, Jeffery was the only member of his litter to carry Dalfoe blood. His sister Nicole and brother Peter acquired
their mothers blood and thus also have her last name. Jeffery grew up to be a handful when dealing
with others, getting into physical disagreements with anyone who did not see
things his way and leaving a lasting impression. Anne knew a bit about the Art, and tried to
pass some of that down to him in an effort to re-channel his focus. While he did pick up a few pieces of the Art
he never really had the interest to go far. Taking leave of his mother Jeffery took up the
other arts; that of the body in order to, as his mother put it,
"re-channel his focus".
Now a
third
level monk who has a broad base of skills, Jeffery is fond of grapple attacks
in order to diminish an opponent’s threat to his party as well as give him
something to pound on. Jeffery is more
apt to act than talk and this at times gets him into trouble.
Jeffrey
cohabitates with Kikah, from whom he has learned some
of the methods of Clandestine Luminescence.
Kalawac
First level thief, Kalawac sits firmly in the middle ground. Neither a great fighter or lock-pick he is able to do both
just well enough to get along. He seems destined to be skill based and won't be
able to show his stuff until his level allows a decent rank. As
of recent Kalawac has earned the attentions of the
party medic, Krystal, by doing little more than
showing her some kindness. This has not turned out to be such a bad
thing as having a medic who cares for you is said to be good for your health.
At this time Kalawac lives separate from the rest of
his group, but may opt to move into the "communal dwelling" soon.
Kalawac's
player later retired from play.
Rose
The
only full magic user in this group who has chosen a specialty in gem magic. Thus far Rose is
not truly battle ready and has a heavier focus on utilitarian and defensive magics. Rose currently lives with Ashley, Jeffery and Krystal in a dwelling they are paying off between the four
of them.
Rose is now deceased,
her life taken by Kalawac.
A son of two now
retired thieves, Marakin himself follows his parents larcenous path. Both of them
having some small working knowledge of the Art, passed some of their education
down to this son. Most of what they know deals with plays of light and
sound, but Marakin has tried to embrace the full
spectrum of the arcane arts. With this inclination Marakin
was sent to study for a time with the mystic Oth
Ayala and now has a firm enough background to work his way up from here.
Marakin
is multiclass thief/mage at level one. This variant
does not have full abilities from either class but has some traits from both.
So far seems to struggle to accomplish much besides lock-picking. Currently
lives with his parents, who are themselves retired thieves who own a pawn shop.
Alex Ayala
An
aristocrat that has become discontent with the title and status that is his
birthright and wishes to pursue something more. Taking advantage of his
access to better education, Alex has learned a few general skills to help in
day to day activities while specializing in medicine and engineering. Alex has
also taken up the long sword as a means of protecting himself as well as
others, a skill he has put to use by joining the enforcers. Having his eyes set
upon the title of nobility, Alex works to better himself
and earn the qualities of the elite, something that a bit of time dealing with
the real day to day problems of urban life may help him realize.
Alex has joined the
team as a field medic and can function as a diplomat when the need arises. He
does not mix well with the others of the group but all to ready to lend aid
when the need arises.
He is currently not
playable as he is trapped in some sort of phenomena surrounding certain areas
of Old Lyshy.
Played by the newest
member of our group, Lilly is a necromancer that joined the enforcer team later
into the game. Lilly and Grey Eyes pal around often and seem to have entered an
agreement to help forward each others studies in the Art. Lilly has allowed.
Lilly lives in the tomb of three individuals, one of which lingers on in the
world as a bone ghoul named Murray. Lilly allows Murray to drink of her essence
and in return for this sustaining energy, Murray acts as sort of a guard about
the tomb; those who force they way into the tomb face a bone ghoul very
determined to protect its meal ticket.
Lilly has joined the Enforces
for rather weak reasons, mostly just to hang with Grey Eyes and being able to
pay for a good meal each day. It also allows Lilly to employ her Art in real
situations more often, something she is fond of. Just what she is willing to do
for an extra scrap of arcane knowledge is unknown.
With a little cohersion by Annalisa, Lilly has
become a member of a group of hares serving the zamonudi,
Dlar. She has been marked as the property of Dlar and is off limits to other zamonudi
or those serving them. The agreement is that in exchange for the mark and the
opportunity to trade scrolls or victims to Dlar for
other scrolls or cash, Lilly will offer herself as prey to Dlar
a future time. In the meanwhile this will allow Lilly access to valuable
material that will allow her to grow as a practitioner of the Art, making her
all the more sweet when the time comes for her to give herself to Dlar’s appetite. Lilly was a key member in changing the cult
in both operation and leadership and so has some measure of clout.
Lilly used her find
familiar ability while in the town of New Lyshy,
employing it in a nearby grave site. From
this she gained a whisper as a familiar which she named Fluffy. This whisper sips one essence from Lilly and
in exchange gifts her with a bit of its awareness, giving a Wisdom bonus of two
points. As a whisper, Fluffy allows
Lilly to see though its dead eyes and see the spirits of others and can prove
to be an almost undetectable scout.
While aware of its surroundings more or less, this whisper is weak and
remains inactive most of the time. Lilly
recently discovered that Fluffy is the whisper of a rather young doe, perhaps
the age of two, with a sad and care-worn expression.
Jasper
Orphaned in an attack
upon her home at an early age, Jasper is thought of as kind and inquisitive by
those who know her. She has picked up what she could of her life, living with
her aunt and uncle in Espiss. Jasper has picked up a
bit of the Art, and has recently joined the enforces
for several reasons, one of which may be that the line of work may lead her to
her family's attackers some day.
Jasper and Lilly have
taken up residence in the same tomb, and have been exchanging notes on their
knowledge of the Art.
This character is
basically a gem wizard which replaced the late Rose.
Jasper has fallen to
the savage assault of Kikah.
Loosing his parents at
a relatively young age, Luke did not have the normal upbringing most are
afforded. He is fortunate enough to have
a sister, Lisa, from his parents previous litter who
is fully grown and practiced in the Arts.
Lisa took it upon herself to share some of her knowledge with him to
complement his budding talent for the more physical arts of combat. Luke joined the Enforcers as a means to hoan his skills in a real setting, favouring the lessons of
reality to that of contextless practice and
study. Soon after joining the group,
Luke became attracted to the team supervisor, Krystal,
and her benevolent talents of the medic and nurse. Thinking ahead to a time he might wish a kakinida, Luke has decided to take actions to earn her
esteem. Trying to balance his growing
desire for Krystal with his desire for power may
prove to be challenging in the long run.
Born of a relationship between Scott
Grey-eyes, and Charline Ayala. Both of her parents are necromancers living
and working in Espis.
Charline is a doctor, who has found that
subtle usage of her powers allowed her to save many who would otherwise have
succumb to their injuries. Scott works
as a coroner in the same hospital, and met Charline
when a few of her “treated” patients were beyond her best efforts, and he
recognized the marks of the “Art” upon them.
They started to work together as a team, and made the hospital an
excellent place to heal, as the equipment and rooms are kept rather sterile
through their surreptitious efforts. If a patent slips away despite the
treatment offered Scott can usually determine why, and help Charline
to perfect her technique.
Their
shared experience and successes caused them to fall in love and produced a
litter, 3 daughters and 2 sons. Over the
course of their childhood their parents did their best to keep the secrets of
their art from them, to protect them from the persecution they would face if
discovered. One day as fate would have it, Mewcara discovered some of
their books and study materials in one of the hiding places in the house and
confronted her parents with it. They
explained to her that the knowledge itself was not the evil their civilization
had proclaimed it, and that innumerable young and promising hares had been saved
by the practices of her parents. They
also informed her that she was lucky, and that the potency of her spirit was
far in excess of the average member of her species or even blood line, and
began to train her to perfect it even further that she might one day become
more resistant to all the forms of death they had encountered thus far.
Skeptical
but believing blood is thicker then water, and also harder to clean up, she
agreed to learn about the art and its uses from her parents, so they could
convincer her of the good it was capable of.
Taking quickly to the knowledge and skills she was taught by her
parents, and the autopsy reports Scott had produced from Zelengorsk
victims, she decided it would be advisable to fortify her body and spirit
against the dangers of this world as her parents has hoped she would and began
to take some self defense classes offered at a dojo near the hospital. The development of her combat skills combined
with her upgraded spirit and necromantic expertise has turned her into a
powerful combatant. Seeing an opportunity
to sharpen her skills she traveled where her parents sent her to learn about
the kinds of death they could not witness in person, so they could study it
from her notes and try to treat it should it show up in their domain. It was on one of these trips she went to Lyshy, and met up with the party, met the commander, and
decided to join the enforcers on her return to Espis.
Mewcara, is a 5 foot tall angora lop. She has grey fur with a dark blue ventral and
hair. She is of her father’s blood,
being an off-shoot of Ayala, but simply having the eye colour
for which the line was named. She is in
general a kind and friendly person, cheerful to know, inquisitive and likes to
have a good time. It should be noted
that due to the power of her spirit and the stamina is grants her she can have
a “good time” longer then any of the bucks she’s met so far, and finds it
disappointing when they beg her to ease up.
It should be noted that while in general she is kind her familiarity
with the penalty for her Art, and the ignorance with which the rest of the city
view it angers her. As a result of she
has come to accept that her job is to help hares but weeding out the gene pool
for one reason or another. So long as it
is of benefit to her cause is acceptable, she is just cautious to avoid doing
harm to those of value in the city, and despises deaths which do not further either her and her parents ambitions of perfecting herself,
and will go to great lengths to prevent them.
Having teamed up with Lilly and fallen into Dlar’s cult, Grey Eyes has found herself in a strange position. While feeling tricked into joining she has
found the experience to be not quite as bad as she first anticipated. Believing that Dlar
saved her life she feels that she more or less owes Dlar
her life anyway, and so the notion that she will likely be its prey eventually does
not bother her.
Working with Lilly, Grey Eyes helped to see the cult change for what she sees is the better. While the running of the cult is of little interest to her she finds entertaining Dlar itself far more rewarding. Having developed a strong tie with Dlar Grey Eyes makes it her task to ensure Dlar is treated well and fairly by the cult and others. It is with no small amount of pleasure that Grey Eyes discovered one day that the strange Gleeah substance found within Dlar seems to have taken up permanent residence in her mouth.
