The following three criteria in assessing student performance in speaking will be used: how much and how correct structurally, how much is understandable, and how fluent is the student. The criteria will be shared with the students beforehand and they will be modeled so that students know what to expect and what makes a score of 3 different from a score of 4 or 5, for example.

What Makes a Good Oral Presentation in Spanish?
How much is communicated and how correct structurally is it?
1 _____ No information.
2 _____ Very little information with incorrect structures.
3 _____ Some relevant information with some incorrect structures.
4 _____ A fair amount of information with very few incorrect structures.
5 _____ Most or all information with mostly correct structures.
How much is understandable?
1 ____  Could not understand anything.
2 ____  Could understand some words.
3 ____  Could understand a few phrases.
4 ____  Could understand some short, simple sentences.
5 ____  Could understand all or most of what the student said.
How does the presentation flow?
1____  No student response.
2____  Very halting. Begins several times.
3____  Some halting speech. Some short phrases flow.
4____  Almost no pauses. Very smooth.
5____  Extremely smooth and without effort.
