Two photos of Mars here. The top image is from the recent 2005 apparition, the image below is from the 2003 apparation. Apart from the obvious improvement in quality, it is interesting to see how the northern ice cap has shrunk over the two years (North is at the bottom). Some climatologists believe that Mars, like the Earth is undergoing a period of global warming. The closest approach on 27/08/03 was the closest that Mars had got to Earth in 65,000 years ! |
