Are Male Rats Smarter Than Female Rats?

Lorenzo's Formal Lab Report

Abstract

I will prove that Ziggy and Gooey, the female rats, will be smarter than Bandit and Midnight, the male rats. I have produced a maze that mother the female and male rats will use so there is no problem with size and measurements. All the rates will be timed fairly, and the gender that has the maze completed in the fastest amount of time will be rewarded as the smartest rat gender.

Problem Statement

Are female rats faster at finding food in a complicated maze than male rats?

Hypothesis

On average the female rats will complete the maze faster than the male rats.

Materials

  • Cardboard
  • Masking Tape
  • Scissors
  • Rats (2 male, 2 female)
  • Doggy Treats
  • Stop Watch

    Procedure

Step 1: Plan out the maze
    Step 2: Build the maze
Step 3: Testing-letting the female and male rats run the maze four times
    Step 4: Record Results

    Data & Observation

  • Gooeys Average 0:35:00
  • Midnights Average 0:24:15
  • Ziggys Average 3:06:25
  • Bandits Average 0:24:00

    Female Average - 01:50:00
    Male Average 00:24:30

    Results

The male rats succeeded in completing the maze faster than the female rats. All the male rats succeeded in completing the maze, all the females completed the maze with the exception of Ziggy on trial #2.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, the male rats completed the maze faster than the female rats. The male rats seemed to be more adventurous than the female rats with the exception of Gooey. After sighting the food from the first completion of the maze, Bandit moved fastest to find the food again and again.
