In April of 2006, I sold my Novakar F500 after 5 seasons with plans of switching classes to American Sedan. In the spring of 2005, I was downsized from Ford. As luck would have it, the lease on my truck was up the next month. I turned that truck in and paid cash for a 1995 Mustang GT. I'd always wanted a Mustang street car and always admired the A-sedan group. At the end of the 2005 season I put the F500 up for sale. In December of 2005, I finally found another job that unfortunately pays 30% less than the Ford job (times are tough here in Detroit). The F500 sold to a nice couple out of Texas in April of 2006. The proceeds from that sale paid a hefty tax bill and bought a used F150. In May of 2006, the teardown of the Mustang began....
The pages that follow will document the build process and all expenses incurred. The one thing I noticed while researching the decision to go A-Sedan was that most everyone I talked to seemed to brag about how much money they had in their car. It was discouraging at first, but the more I checked into things the less inclined I was to believe them. I intend to build a competitive regional level car for under $15,000. Progress will be based off of spare time and spare $$$
The car is a 1995 Mustang GT automatic with roughly 115,000 miles on it. I chose that model because it's a newer chassis/body style, was the last year for the 5.0L motor (required in A-sedan) and it has 4-wheel disc brakes. I'd have liked to have gotten a 5-speed model, but decent cars were hard to come by on such short notice and I desperately needed a daily driver. I paid $4000 cash for the car and drove it every day for 9 months.
