The RF&P Alexandria rail yard had several facilities at which switcher maintenance was performed. The old roundhouse and operating turntable were originally built for steam engines. At the time of our visit the turntable and roundhouse were used to service yard diesel switchers. Older Yard Switcher number 68 was being considered for conversion to a calf. Its cab would have been chopped off. Operating control would have been through a link between the calf and cow units.
