Jehovah Nissi - The Lord My Banner

My name is Robert G. Gateru

Below is a brief summary of my life and a testimony of God's faithfulness.......

I was born on Feb 25th, 26 years ago in the rural countryside of Nyandarua District in Kenya, East Africa. I did my primary education in a school by the name of Mahianyu Pimary School, clearing in 1986.

I joined Leshau Secondary School also in Nyandarua District, Kenya for my secondary school education. I finished in 1990 being a young 16yr old innocent boy :) I have to admit that the schooling conitions in these two schools were nowhere near the ideal.

However, God gave me the favour and honour of what to me was a prestigious opportunity. To join the University of Nairobi (the best institution of higher learning in East and Central Africa) from a rural countryside secondary school. That was a real dream fulfilled. My university life was full of many surprises from God and though it took five years to clear instead of four due to student riots, it was a great experience and I met great people who are very dear friends to this day. The greatest surprise was God giving me a First Class Honours in my BSc (Physics) degree. It was the first First Class Honours degree in that department for over 10yrs and about the 5th ever.

In my final year at uni, I filled application forms for various universities abroad coz I wanted to further my studies but....couldn't afford it. I was another surprise two years later to receive a full scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge in England for my Mphil course. I stayed at Cambridge for one year until Sep 1999. That was another great experience.

God wasn't done yet. Just as I was clearing Cambridge, he gave me 3 full scholarships to choose from for my PhD study. I selected one and gave the other one to a friend. I am now therefore studying at the University of Surrey (UniS) in Guildford, England, taking a PhD course in Electronic Engineering, which I hope to finish b4 Dec 2002

Before joining Cambridge after graduating from Nairobi, I worked for nearly two years at a Graphics company in Nairobi called Kul Graphics Ltd. That job was another miracle coz after I had filled many application forms and attended interviews, God just brought somebody to me (I had never met him before though he knew me somehow) and he asked me if I needed a job. You bet the excitement.

Many little things have happened and though to many people they may seem small, common and usual, I have always seen God in the center of everyone of them. I give Glory to Him and to Jesus Christ His Love sacrifice for us, for taking me through all this and I trust Him for every bit of my future. I can rest secure  - BECAUSE HE LIVES!!!
