Nordic Music
I LOVE nordic folk music.  It's only natural, because I'm part Norwegian, Swedish and Danish.  I started liking it after I visited the 1999 Junction City Scandinavian Festival.  I bought a sampler CD from the Northside record company, for only $3!!  At that price, I couldn't pass it up.  I didn't know what to expect, but I ended up liking it.

As of August, I now have 16 Nordic CDs.  The artists include:

JPP (Finnish fiddling band)

Vasen (Swedish Nyckelharpa, etc.)

Groupa (Swedish folk)

Varttina (Finnish singing ladies)

Annbjorg Lien (Norwegian female Hardanger Fiddler)

Northside Records

Northside is a record company based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  They are dedicated to distributing and promoting contemporary Nordic folk musicians.  I buy most of my Nordic CDs from them.
Nordic Folk Music Project

This website is a project done by some students in Scandinavia.  I can't say if the content is accurate or not, but it looks as if they've done a lot of research
Music Links -Norway

This page is in Norwegian, but it contains many links to websites of Norwegian musicians and bands (yes, they have A-HA).
Scandinavian Folk Dancing Links

This page claims to have links to dancing-related sites, but seems to mostly have sites about the music and instruments.  Still, it's a useful page.  The left side of the page contains sections on many other styles of dance.
Hardanger Fiddle Association of America

The Hardanger fiddle is a Norwegian instrument with four sympathetic strings underneath the four melody strings.  The result is a haunting drone that will touch the heart of every Norwegian.  This website is home to an American association that wants to preserve this art form.
American Nyckelharpa Association

The ANA is the American organization for the preservation and promotion of the Nyckelharpa, the Swedish keyed fiddle.  This instrument is very popular in some parts of Sweden, and has been used in traditional Swedish music for a long time.  The use of it in folk music is growing with every year.

An article about the growing folk trends in Scandinavia

Danish folk music links (most in Danish)

General folk music links (really good ones, too):

Rootsworld.com , an internet music magazine with info and reviews, some sound clips as well.

CDroots.com , where you can order many foreign CDs for home delivery.

"The world" radio show , where you can listen to archives of their "global hit" world music show

Natalie MacMaster's homepage (go to the links section).  It's not Nordic, but it does have links to some cool fiddling sites.

Yahoo!'s folk music section. As usual, Yahoo! has more info than you can handle in a single day.
