"Youth hockey was a lot of fun for all of us.  When we weren't playing on our team we were playing the outdoor rinks or just playing street hockey."
-Doug Palazzari

Doug Palazzari was the sixth born child to Aldo and Lorraine Palazzari (he was the fourth boy).  Doug was born in 1952 in the family's hometown of Eveleth, Minnesota.  Doug had the standard Eveleth childhood - sports, sports, sports and more sports.  If it wasn't hockey it was baseball, and if it wasn't baseball it was football.  But hockey was the most important, especially in the Palazzari family.  I've heard that all of the boys played hockey.  Doug's brother, Tony, even followed his older sibling to Colorado College to play hockey there.

As was common back in the sixties, Eveleth's youth hockey teams were among the best.  Doug's bantam team went to the nationals at Lake Placid and placed second!

"I wasn't even considering playing pro hockey, because there weren't many Americans playing professionally then.  I just wanted to get a good education."

Like his father, uncle, and brothers before him, Doug played for Eveleth High School's hockey team.  In a different time, Eveleth High was THE place to recruit college and even professional players.  It was a little different when Doug played there, but not much.  After what was probably a very successful career at EHS, Doug earned a scholarship to attend Colorado College in Colorado Springs.  This was the big time, WCHA hockey against powerhouses such as Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Doug did very well at CC, earning his place among the very best hockey players the school has had to offer.
