| SPECIAL HALLOWEEN EDITION: Okay, so I lied. I'm updating this on Saturday morning instead of Monday. I'm in such a festive spirit that I can't wait. Here are the cool sites for this week: Week of Oct 29-November 4: Cool site #1: Mel Brooks' Movies: Young Frankenstein This movie is, without a doubt, one of the funniest Halloween-related movies of all time. This particular site includes pictures, sounds, and more. Cool site # 2: Halloween Magazine's History of Halloween As a history buff, I thought I'd direct you to this page, which includes links to a few sites about the pagan history of today's candy-fest. Cool site #3: Gjallarhorn I just recently found out about this Scandinavian music group. They come from the Swedish part of Finland, and perform old poetic songs in a hard rockin' modern style. No amps though. But they do have the Australian Didgeridoo. What's that doing in a Nordic band? Hey, it has a drone, doesn't it? I don't see too much difference between it and the Jew's Harp. Anyway, this music is just awesome. If you're Nordic, it will cling to your soul and call up emotions you never knew you had. On the group's site, realaudio clips are available (including all of their new album). I highly recommend that you give them a listen. |
| Week of Nov. 6-12: www.biography.com This is the site to go to if you want to know stories of the lives of famous people of all types. Make sure to watch the show on A&E in addition to visiting this site. |
| Week of Nov. 13-Nov. 19: Things have been very busy, so I forgot about the update on Monday. Since football in the state of Oregon is now the hottest thing in the country, my cool site of the week is the Pac-10 Homepage (www.pac-10.org). Come next Monday, the cool site of the week might have something to do with a particular red colored flower. A rose, for example. We'll have to wait until Saturday to find out. |
| Week of 11/20/00 - 11/26/00: It's that time of the year. Thanksgiving. The time of year where we give thanks for our good fortune while doing what we Americans do best: EAT!!!! In honor of Thanksgiving, this week's cool site is about my dad's family's Norwegian Thanksgiving tradition: eating lefse. Lefse is kind of like a Norwegian tortilla, only made with mashed potatoes and butter. Get out the cinnamon and sugar! The "Lefse Links" page God Takkedag!! (Happy Thanksgiving!) |
