We will conclude our look at the Estabrooks family with this installment. The nineth and tenth children born to Joseph and Lucretia (Handy) Estabrooks were:
9. Elizabeth Estabrooks, b. c1798. She married first, Enoch Burpee of Sheffield, Sunbury Co., N.B. By him she had four children, 9.1 Ward Chipman, 9.2 Caroline Elizabeth, 9.3 Thomas Bradford, and 9.4 Adeline Burpee. She later married second, Nathaniel Gallop of Grand Falls by whom she had, 9.5 Mary Jane, 9.6 Joseph W.E. Gallop, and other children.
10. Jacob Estabrooks, b. Jan. 19, 1807, Sheffield, N.B.; m. April 23, 1825, Adeline Burpee. She was born Aug. 15, 1804, and died Feb. 9, 1885. Their children were all born in Carleton Co. except Joseph who was born in Fredericton. Jacob lived in Fredericton the latter years of his life. They had ten children: 10.1 Lucretia Estabrooks, b. July 21, 1826, d. Oct. 30, 1908 (m. George Nevers of the Hartland area and had Frederick, Odbur, George, Millicent, Handy, and Orvil Nevers, and perhaps others); 10.2 Arthur Wellington Estabrooks, b. Aug. 5, 1828 (m. Grisella Savage and had Horace W., and Barry Burrill Estabrooks); 10.3 Elizabeth Ann Estabrooks, b. Jan. 23, 1831. d. Aug. 23, 1926 (m. Jan. 4, 1852, Charles Belyea of Rockland and had Adelbert, James A., George J., Charles, Burpee, Frances, Bird, Eva, Adeline, and Agnes Belyea); 10.4 Richard Scott Estabrooks, b. April 22, 1833 (m, Martha Graham of Grand Falls and had Hanford, Harvey, Walter P., Ethel, William, and Scott Estabrooks); 10.5 Handy Chipman Estabrooks, b. April 24, 1835, d. April 21, 1857 (m. Rhoda Hamilton of Woodstock and had Effie, Roland, Iza, Isadore, and Handy Estabrooks); 10.6 Frances Victoria Estabrooks, b. Aug. 13, 1837, d. in 1920 (m. at Centerville, Carleton Co., N.B., Charles West, b. Dec. 28, 1833, at Kingsclear. N.B., and had Edward Ludlow, Alberta May, Mary Edith, Helen Annie Peters, and Bessie Adeline West); 10.7 William Ludlow Estabrooks, b. Feb. 18, 1840, d. c1916 in New York (m. First, Josephine Hull of New York, and second, Alice McKenzie. His children were William Ludlow, John, George, Marshall, and Emma Douglas Estabrooks); 10.8 Helen Augusta Estabrooks, b. July 28, 1842, d. in 1885 (m. first, Hugh McGrath of the Parish of Wakefield who died in 1866, and she m. second, Robert Brittain of Minneapolis. She had a daughter, Aususta Brittain); 10.9 Joseph Frederick Estabrooks, b. Jan. 30, 1846 (m. first, Lois Wade, and second, Anna Gravenstein in Minneapolis. He had at least four daughters, names unknown); and 10.10 Adeline Melissa Estabrooks, b. Oct. 13, 1849, d. Jan. 16, 1871 (m. John F. Brittain of the Parish of Richmond, Carleton Co., N.B., who died about 1877. They had a son who died at birth).
In addition to Elijah and Joseph Estabrooks, another son of Elijah and Mary (Hackett) Estabrooks came to Carleton County. This third brother was Ebenezer Estabrooks who was baptized in Boxford, Mass., Aug. 28, 1759. He married Maria Fletcher before 1783, settled at Gagetown, N.B., and was dispossed by the Loyalists in 1785. He then lived for a time on his grant, half of Lot 25, in the Parish of Cambridge, Queens County, and in 1796 was living at Lakeville in the Parish of Sheffield, Sunbury County. He was one of those who signed the covenant on the ocassion of forming the Baptist church at Waterborough Oct. 20, 1800. He moved to Lincoln, Sunbury Co., about 1808, and that year received land on Little River. On Dec. 25, 1813, he and several others asked to be dismissed from the church at Waterborough to join in forming a Baptist church in Fredericton. This was the beginning of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church. In 1816 he took up 300 acres of land, Lot 7 in the fourth tier back of Waterville, Carleton County, where he died about 1851. About 1814 he married his second wife, Charlotte Ann Lounsbury. She was born in 1782 and died in 1860. His children, by his first wife, Maria Fletcher, were:
1. Ebenezer Estabrooks, b. c1784, d. about April 16, 1814; m. Rebecca Hume. They had no children. After his death she married Reuben Hoben.
2. Maria Estabrooks, b. c1787; m. David Coy. He was a blacksmith and they lived in Sheffield. Their children were, 2.1 Amasa, 2.2 Elizabeth, 2.3 James W., 2.4 Diana, 2.5 Wealthy Ann, and 2.6 Mary Coy.
3. David Estabrooks, b. c1791; m. Judith Fletcher. He obtained land near Waterville, Carleton Co., about 1814, and they lived there for a time. Later he sold the land to his father and moved to Calais, Maine, where he was a house carpenter. They were both living in 1870. Their children were, 3.1 Thomas, 3.2 Sarah, 3.3 Mary Ann, 3.4 Nancy, 3.5 Judith, 3.6 Melvin, 3.7 David, 3.8 Ira, 3.9 Daniel, and 3.10 Elvira Estabrooks.
4. Thomas Fletcher Estabrooks, b. at Sheffield in 1794; d. at Lakeville in the Parish of Sheffield in 1823; m. in 1818, Jane Munro of Maugerville. After his death she married Francis Hunter and, in 1831, they moved to Hodgdon, Maine. Thomas was granted Lot 3 in the sixth tier in the Parish of Wakefield, Carleton Co., near Briggs Corner, but he never took possession. He and Jane lived at Lakeville in the Parish of Sheffield, Sunbury County. His children were, 4.1 Eliza, 4.2 Louisa, 4.3 Leverett Evans, and 4.4 Francis Estabrooks.
5. Stephen Potter Estabrooks, b. at Sheffield in 1797, d. May 10, 1870; m. Sep. 1, 1825, his cousin, Elizabeth, daughter of John and Catherine (Ebbett) Estabrooks. She was born in 1800 and died Mar. 16, 1876. They lived just below McGowan's wharf in Sheffield but, because of spring flooding, moved in 1852 to Swan Creek in the Parish of Burton where he bought a farm from Whitehead Barker and built a beautiful home which was inherited by his son Henry. His children were, 5.1 Stephen Harris Estabrooks, b. in 1826, became a school teacher but for a time he kept store in Wicklow, Carleton Co., where he met and married Judith Ann Milbury on the 28th of Sept., 1854. They returned to Swan Creek about 1865 and he died at Oromocto about 1900. Their son, Theodore Harding Estabrooks was founder of the Red Rose Tea Company. 5.2 John Frederick Estabrooks, b. Jul. 18, 1828, d. Apr. 13, 1912, m. Oct. 28, 1858, Margaret Akerley. For about fifteen years after their marriage they lived in Boston, returning afterward to Saint John where he was in the fruit business. 5.3 William T. Estabrooks, 5.4 George Estabrooks, 5.5 Elizabeth J. Estabrooks; m. about 1857, Rev. Theodore Harding Porter, a Baptist Minister in Fredericton, and 5.6 Henry Albert Estabrooks.
6. Joseph Fletcher Estabrooks, b. c1798; m. his cousin, Ann, daughter of John and Catherine (Ebbett) Estabrooks. They lived near Chipman, N.B. Their children were, 6.1 Martha Ann, 6.2 James, 6.3 Katherine, 6.4 Etta, 6.5 Alice, 6.6 Odbur, and 6.7 Isabel Estabrooks. Two others died in infancy.
7. William Wilmot Estabrooks, b. Jun. 28, 1803, d. at Bay City, Mich., Dec. 23, 1871; m. Dec. 31, 1825, Jerusha, daughter of Samuel Newcomb of Cornwallis, N.S. In 1828 he received a grant of Lot 11 in the sixth tier at Payson Lake in the Parish of Wakefield, Carleton Co. They had a son, William Wilmot Jr.. born in the Parish of Wakefield, Jun. 24, 1827, and died in Chicago.
8. Deborah Estabrooks, b. c1806; m. Mr. McNeill and lived in Fredericton.
9. Harriett Estabrooks. She may have been brought up by Dr. Brown of Gagetown after her mother's death. She married first, Jack Tapley, and second, Mr. Hill.
Children by Charlotte Ann Lounsbury, Ebenezer's second wife:
10. Ebenezer Estabrooks, b. c1815, d. in April 1857; m. Nancy Smith. He had land at Blissville, Sunbury Co., and may have lived there for a while. About 1842 he moved to the Parish of Wicklow, Carleton Co.
11. Sarah Estabrooks, b. c1817; m. Thomas Oliver Rideout. They lived in the Parish of Wakefield, Carleton Co., and had 10 children, who were named in the eighteenth in this series.
12. Chipman Estabrooks, b. Dec. 16, 1818, d. in 1890; m. Lucretia Smith. They lived in the Parish of Wakefield and their children were, 12.1 Albert, 12.2 Ebenezer, 12.3 Stephen, 12.4 Frederick, 12.5 Wilson, 12.6 John, 12.7 Clara, 12.8 Amelia, 12.9 Joseph, m. Catherine Peed and lived at Waterville, 12.10 Sophia, twin of Joseph, 12.11 Annie , and 12.12 Rhoda Estabrooks.
13. George Estabrooks, died young by drowning.
14. Charlotte Ann Estabrooks; m. James Lawrence and had children, 14.1 Blackwell, 14.2 Delbert, 14.3 Charles, and 14.4 James Wilmot Lawrence.
3. Harry Judson Tedford, b. July 15, 1868, at Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth Co., N.S., d. Feb. 4, 1939, buried at Westbrook, Maine; m. Oct. 6, 1889, Ruby M., daughter of William and Lydia (Kelly) Estabrooks. She was b. Sept. 22, 1874, at Bancroft, Maine, d. July 6, 1950, also buried at Westbrook. William Estabrooks was a son of Hammond and Jemima (Belyea) Estabrooks who were m. in the Parish of Brighton, Carleton Co., N.B., Nov. 15, 1834, and grandson of Hammond and Rebecca (Glasier) Estabrooks who were mentioned near the conclusion of the thirtieth in this series.
