Edward Gilman(III) was born 1587 in Hingham, Norfolk Co.,
England, and died June 22, 1655 in Exeter, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. He married Mary
Clark June 03, 1614 in Hingham, Norfolk Co., England, daughter of John Clark and
Elizabeth Clark. She was born 1590 in Hingham, Norfolk Co., England, and died June 22,
1681 in Hingham, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts.

Edward came to Boston in
1638 in the Diligent with his wife, three sons, two daughters, and two servants. He was
from Hingham, England, where the family is still residing in high esteem. He was made a
Freeman March 13, 1639. he removed to Rehoboth in 1643, and to Ipswich wsoon after, where
he was in 1647, and Exeter, New Hampshire after 1652.
Edward was 68 when he
died.

Edward was one of the four
young men who were permitted to build a gallery in the first meeting house in Hingham
March 11, 1645.
Edward was in Ispwich in
1647, Exeter in 1652. Whether Abigail was Edwards first wife or second is uncertain, it is
stated he was the son-in-law of Richard Smith. Edward went to England in 1653 to obtain
mill gear and was lost at sea.
