MORE OFF SHORE ANTICS FROM THE THOSE NAUGHTY PIRATE
RADIO STATIONS
Here is a DJ called Grant Benson who graced the airwaves of Radio Caroline in 1983 just after their return.  Here he is in all his splendour with a brilliant closedown, saying Radio Nova then correcting himself and remembering he was on Caroline.
In the late 70s and early 80s Irish Radio was full of SUPERPIRATES.  These stations found a loophole in the Irish radio laws, then they filled the AM band with stations like ABC, Big D,  South Coast Radio, E.R.I., Radio Carousel, Radio Nova International and
Radio West, not to mention SUNSHINE on 531 MW
Here are some samples of some of the stations mentioned above.
After the closure and impounding of Laser 558 ship the communicator, I thought the slick souning station would never be heard again.  After a few months in dock and a  couple of new owners she came back on 576Khz, Caroline had been given the crystals for the 558 frequency.  Her name changed to Laser Hot Hits on 576, she still sounded as polished as ever and had ex IRN newsman Andrew Turner as their Newsreader/presenter.  Another crew of american jocks came on the air too, but the most exciting, brash and over the top of them all was a guy called Johnny 'Rock'n'Roll' Anthony.  His delivery was fast paced but very punchy and he sounded really up for it.  Her are three examplles of his presentation, hope you enjoy them.
Dave Owen doing his last programme for the late lamented Atlantis, as i have said before this station was without doubt the most zany and fun packed of all the PIRATES.  Here is a little piece of Pop Radio History.
Robin Ross was on Radio Caroline from August 1983 till about April of 1984 if my memory serves me rightly.  Here he is doing a request for the guys on the Oil Rigs, in the Brent fields.
Tom Anderson that stalwart of marine broadcasters doing his  THING on Caroline around about 84/85.
