SHORT WAVE 'FREE RADIO' STATIONS NO LONGER ON THE AIR. OR (not on as often as they used to be)
Here is the first Short Wave 'FREE' radio station I listened to way back in 1981, this is a studio recording of the late Norman Nelson who had an excellent radio dx programme on his station. His station sounded quite polished and professional it was called Radio East Coast Commercial
Here is a rather patchy recording of Westside Radio in 1981, this 'free' station broadcasted from the border near to Eire. It was run by a DJ called Prince Terry and was quite informative about Caroline getting another ship (in 1981/1982 and comeback in 1983).
Another very professional and polished DJ, Mr Roger Davies on BRI (BRITAIN RADIO INTERNATIONAL) in 1990 i don't know if the station is still broadcasting or not, here is a station ID.
Another recording from BRI this time the sad news about the raid on the Ross Revenge the previous week. BRI was one of the first 'free' Short Wave stations to report the incident (Aug 89)
Here is a clip of the SW Irish station Radio Rainbow International which was on the air for a few years in the early eighties. They had a powerful signal and their programme content was of a high quality.
Here is the one and only MOUTH OF THE SOUTH Mr Andy Walker on Radio Free London. This station is the oldest pirate station in Europe and has stood the test of time, they still brodcast on 5805 every other weekend, they are out and out 100% anoraks.
Yes it's Andy Walker again this time with one of his politically incorrect jokes, this is what free radio is all about. Spontaneous comments not a script in sight, well maybe but not censored like those ILR chappies.
