| My Work Experiance with Leech Lake as Program Director. | |||||||||||
| 1998: Anishinabe Bimadiz Program Director. I established Ojibwe cultural workshops within 14 tribal communities. i started to implement the following programs, youth and elder mentorships, importing wildrice to Europe grocery markets, native artist guild, and a native artist winter show Problem One: I was suppose to interview and hire the staff. I realized that this wasn't going to happen when Marleen Stately was hired without any job advertisements or interviews. Marleen was good friends with Gerald White, who was the Division Director for Heritage Sites and his brother was Pete White - District Representative. Marleen did not report to work nor did she accomplish any currilum. She did make herself the funeral organizer and Gerald allow her funeral hours as pay for her position. Marleen was allowed to work at her home. She never produced any work. |

| blankets. I also questioned him further on the other purchases and he said that I don't need to worry about the budget and he will be the only one accessing the budget. Problem three: Another appointee by Gerald and Pete was Lious Boyd. He was suppose to write native art manual. He took it out word for word from a book published in the 1950's. Then he was suppose to conduct a drum making workshop in Inger. I recieved a call from Inger that Lious was not showing up. I went out to Inger for one whole week and Louis never showed up. When I would come back to the office at 4pm, Louis would come in at 4:15pm and I would asked him where he was and he said he was at Inger conducting the drum class. Finally on Friday, I told him I was at Inger all week and he was not there. He looked surprized and turned around and ran out the door. When he submitted his timecard for 80 hours, I could only sign off for 20 hours. He resigned and then went to Pete White and told him that I fired him!! Pete never asked me what was going on, but told Louis that he was not fired. Pete and Gerald came to me and told me that Lious is not fired and that I needed to sign his timecard, which I told him why I could only sign off for 20 hours. So, Pete White signed for the rest of his hours. Lious came back to work. Louis worked for a week and then threated to shove a roll of paper up my ass, he waved a wadded up roll of paper and started to come toward me. I stood up to him and told him to leave. I then called the police. Pete White intervined and called the police off and that I had to work with Lious. I transferred to the Public Relations department. |

| Problem two: As Program Director, I was in charge of the program's budget. I kept a spreadsheet of the budget balance and each month I would tally up all my invoices and salaries and deduct it from my budget. Every quarter I would take my paperwork and go over with it with accounting. This is when I found out that Gerald was purchasing 100 pendleton blankets, getting his artwork framed, taking travel mileage out of the program's budget. I asked him about the 100 pendleton blankets and he said they were for the Inger powwow. I decided to go to the powwow to see how they were going to use 100 blankets. They had a giveaway, but not one blanket was given out. But, I did realized that his wife Delina started her native craft business by making stuff out of pendleton | |||||||||||
