Welcome to my world. There you are staring infront of your monitor...your eyes watery from exhaustion over hours of perusing on various websites...and hey, I do recognize you. You've stumbled upon on one of my multi-faceted obsessions - yes, you got that right - Photography. In here, you'll discover my collection of images that I've shot over the past few years until the present.
Auckland in reality is merely a tiny speck of dust in this Universe we exist upon, but to me, this country oozes with numerous photographic locations and subjects ranging from humans to inanimate objects. The images presented here are my collective contribution to the increasing archives only meant for posterity. This is my way of enjoying life, to exist and to use time wisely and through this, I had my side of fun.
URBAN and CITYSCAPES
Just as every one takes assumption that Auckland, well known for its 'City of the Sails' profile, would eventually be blinded from its unorthodoxed but magnificent cityscapes. I have to admit that this photographic locations aren't easy to find - at most times taking me weeks to convince meself which angle or perspective to choose or which building to stand on. Most Aucklanders argue without proof expressing that my images were taken from overseas and I can only stifle my conscience, watching their gestures in disbelief while I reassure them how amazing Auckland can be when were not looking at it.
ACTION, PEOPLE and EVENTS
With all 4 million of its population, I get to capture on film with only a fair share of it. That's not enough. Every now and then, the city is spewing out sporadic events that I usually miss, only to pin that poignant thought on me and regret being a slow poke. Luckily events promoters publish their activities in advance on the net, providing me ample time to prepare. Nothing beats a candid shot. It's fresh, risky and it's always a challenge on the photographer's part. The trend in increasing tourism rates, more international film productions & hosting international racing events, would set this city on a fiery mood of extravaganza - meaning, more photo opportunities for me - wohoo! ! !
CLOSE UPS and MICRO
Ever wonder how it is to be out of ratio with the norm? The tiny world, that is. This area of photography can expose hidden perspectives and sometimes can be considered as surreal. Concentrating on subjects such as flowers and to the extreme minute size of an Ant is an eye opener. Turning inanimate items into a theme based photograph enables me to project a simulated analysis inside my primitive brain on how it can compare against a large scale sample or situation. Insects are the most woderful subjects but never underestimate - they are living nightmares to photo - graph. At the end, it's only a picture that counts.
LIVE CONCERTS
Would you spend thousands of your savings just to get close to these musical legends? That depends on you. It is a once in a lifetime experience, not something that I can take for granted. To witness them perform only a few feet away from me is absolutely breathtaking - not to mention that I'm photographing them too. Technology and a bit of human cleverness made this photographic collection possible. Once the guitars are played, that's it - there's no room for error and if I fail, I'd never forgive meself otherwise only to realize it's my camera's fault. There are more legends enroute to Auckland and have fun I will.
KODACHROME COLLECTIONS
One day on a weekend, while on a bus, a glimpse on my far right made me decide to alight and head straight down through the Krd fleemarket. On that narrow alley where all temporary bazaars were set, my eyes locked on a set of yellow rectangular boxes. Inside it were scores of Kodachrome slides taken from 1950's to 1991. Finally, after all the thorough inspection, the set of 30 boxes was sold tacitly at a price of NZ$50 - pretty cheap. At that moment, so over enthusiastic was I that instead heading downtown, I went home rushing like hell. To my surprise, those antique slides was a jackpot. They needed a lot of cleaning and maintainance is paramount.
