Location: Rock Island, IL. Rock Island was the site of a yankee prison for prisoners of war from the Confederate States Army and civilians during the War for Southern Independence. During the War, thousands of Southerners were held prisoners here and more than 2,000 died as a result of the horrible conditions they suffered under.
