It's easy to say that. It's not so easy to do it, right? That's because even though sin's power to dominate us was broken by Jesus, the world around us is filled with it, and Satan still wants to destroy us. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to "take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." Basically, when a thought pops up in your brain that doesn't agree with God, refuse it right away. Give it to God (pray). By doing this, you're acknowledging God and "exposing yourself" to His truth. Tell Satan to get out of your life ("In the name of Jesus, I bind you and cast you out - get outta here!" ). Surrender to His will.
That's the most important part. We have to surrender to God. EVERYTHING. Daily surrender and put your old self to death. (Don't know how to surrender? Somethin' like this: "God, I surrender myself to You today. I give You my heart, my mind, [specific stuff like things you're tempted/struggling with], my soul, my will [that's the most important thing to give Him!], my thoughts and feelings, my life. Let nothing I do be apart from You. Make my will Your will. Be Lord of all my life, Jesus. I surrender completely to You.") There's like a bunch of verses that talk about the importance of dying to yourself - you can see them here.
