| War on Iraq |
| This has got to be the single most stupid thing Bush has ever done. More stupid even than the damn "War on Terrorism." Don't get me wrong, I don't trust Sadaam Hussein any more than the next person. I don't think he should have access to nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons. But then, on the flip side, I don't trust Bush with nukes any more than I trust Sadaam. I honestly don't believe he would have much restraint using them against Sadaam. What's worse, he could be the one that pushes Sadaam to use his weapons. If it comes to the point where no matter what Sadaam does, he's dead, what incentive would he have to not use them? He could use them against the US or Israel with no reason not to. Yes, Sadaam is a terrible person. No, he should not be in power. His version of democracy is a total sham. If you haven't heard about how ballots, if indeed they can be called ballots, in Iraq work, here goes: the only person on the ballot was Sadaam Hussein for this election. The choice was either yes or no, and you had to include your name and address on the ballot. So, needless to say, he won by 100%. But still, I do not think Bush has provided any justification for his war. He is going to send thousands of innocent people to Iraq, killing many of them, not to mention killing many more Iraqis who have nothing to do with Sadaam. And there's no real reasons to fight him. You can't tell me it's part of his war on terrorism. If we were to attack any country based on that, it'd have to be Saudi Arabia, which is where most of the terrorists came from. Besides, there's no known connection between Saddaam and Osama bin Laden. I refuse to accept the excuse that our oil prices are high as justification for war. Cheaper oil is NOT a justification for human casualties. It takes us back to the barbaric days of imperialism, a dirty chapter in our nation's history, and it's not getting any cleaner. So what other justification is there? None. Retribution for what Sadaam did while his father was in office? That's what it sounds like to me. W. wants to be just like Daddy. He wants to finish what his father started. It'll probably just end up to be more of a mess. Who backs US for this war? Maybe one or two other countries? And just watch, once this is over, the countries that want to help us out now will be our enemies in another 10-15 years. Remember that Sadaam used to be our ally back in the 80's. The only reason he has access to all these weapons is because of the US. And now we're their enemy and we want to make sure they don't have any weapons. And how are we going to get them out of there? With our weapons. HA! America is indeed the pinnacle of hypocracy! See, the non-hypocritical thing to do (if there is a way for us to be non-hypoctritical since we're the ones that gave them access to their weapons in the first place) would be to let the UN do there thing. Let them get inspectors back into Iraq. That was what worked best in the first place. Sadaam realised it was let the inspectors in or be killed, and he showed that he wasn't suicidal and let the inspectors in. So why is it that we can't do something similar this time? There's still peaceful ways to take Sadaam's tools of power away from him. Personally, I don't even know where the idea to attack Sadaam came from anyway. It seems like something Bush just dreamed up and for some reason, everyone seems to support him. I guess it's his whole good vs. evil idea that he's managed to instill in so many people since September 11. I really think that if Bush had said exactly the same things before September 11 or if the terrorists had never happened, he would have no support whatsoever. And I still want to know who in America supports him apart from Congress. Everyone I've talked to since he dreamed this up has been opposed, including my mom's fiance, who has supported a lot of what Bush has said since 9-11 (well, ok, he was smart enough to disagree with Bush's idea to cut down trees to stop wild fires, but I think the only people who supported Bush there were lumber companies). Who are these people they get on the news that say they support Bush??? Must be the most ignorant people the reporters can find to interview. |
