Spirit Never Dies
A discussion of Body, Soul and Spirit is tenuous at
best, as there are no clear facts on which to build any solid foundation. We
can therefore only grasp for some kind of understanding through metaphor and
hope that ultimately, in the End, we will finally understand the true nature of
our creation. For now, many questions remain to be answered. Metaphor for the triune nature of man can be found in
many of the world’s mythologies from Sumerian to Christian, and the formula of
Body, Soul and Spirit is widely accepted. But how these three manifestations of
self interrelate is a matter of philosophy. Let’s begin by addressing the psychical Body, as it
seems to be the easiest of the three to address. It’s generally accepted that
the fleshly body is merely a vehicle that transports the Soul through one’s
lifetime. From here the philosophies diverge depending on rather the soul is
believed to be resurrected or refined through reincarnation. We will use the
reincarnation module as our basis here. Within the vehicle of flesh, life’s
lessons are tested and overcome or put on hold for another lifetime of
spiritual preparation. So if the Body is merely the mechanism for living in
this reality of spiritual lessons our main focus should be on Soul and Spirit. Spirit is that which emanates from G!d/dess. It stands
outside of linear time and is that which is life: the very Breath of Life. A
portion of G!d/dess afforded to each and every material thing. We call this
Spirit into the Material the Descent of the G!ddess. Science has shown
that everything vibrates at its own frequency. The Body (Material) resonates at
a low frequency, while Spirit vibrates at a much higher frequency. Think of
this high frequency as a fast spinning white disc. As the disc begins to lose
speed (falling into lower frequency) the white begins to fade away into the
colors of the rainbow. Once the disc has come to a complete stop each of the
colors becomes clearly visible and unique. This is a very practical example of
the Descent of the G!ddess: Spirit becoming Matter. It is this Spirit that is
incarnated lifetime after lifetime into a new vehicle of flesh made from the
same star stuff that was once the Pharaohs, Julius Caesar, Buddha, Jesus and
all the Sages. But this material stuff does not have life. It is only matter.
There is something unique to the body and spirit and other things of matter,
such as a rock, which also contains spirit (For is not a rock too part of
G!d/dess). This “uniqueness” is the Soul. I find the Hebrew creation myth very
compelling for my belief system regarding this subject. In the first chapter of
the First Book of Moses, commonly called Genesis, we find that G-D created man
from the dust of the ground. This created man was merely body and not alive. It
wasn’t until the Spirit of G-d breathed into the inanimate form the Breath of
Life (Spirit) that he became a Living Soul. From this myth we see that
it takes a combination of Body and Spirit for a Soul to be produced: Material
is fused with Spirit. In the case of the rock, it is merely possessed of Spirit
not conjoined, containing no life. This conjoining of Spirit and Body is the basis for
life’s struggles. Spirit must be of it own perfect being a direct emanation of
the G!d/dess, who is Ultimate Perfection. The Emanation cannot be less than its
source. However, when Spirit is coupled with the Material (Body) the frequency
of Spirit becomes muted: it losses its perfection. This lack of perfection
becomes the catalyst for the Soul’s journey back to pure Spirit. The Spirit
remains dormant behind the scenes in every person until s/he begins to explore
the nature of the Spirit. This exploration is what we term religion, which is
an active journey to achieve Spiritual fulfillment. This dormant state of
Spirit is what we term the Higher Self, and the Higher Self – being an eternal
emanation from G!d/dess – is the repository of all that we need or can hope
for. This communion with Spirit (from here forward I will
refer to Spirit as Higher Self) is the basis of all magickal working. As
mentioned earlier, The Higher Self is not confined by the restraints of linear
time. It is outside of time, eternal and unfettered from physical flesh.
Because the Higher Self is outside of linear time, from it we can gain all the
knowledge of every life that has proceeded our current incarnation and every
life that is yet to be. It is the fabled Akashic
Record, the collective knowledge of the Eons. Because the Higher Self is
an emanation from the G!d/dess, it has direct access to the collective
knowledge of the Universe. When the body dies, Spirit is released from Matter and
returns to its point of origin, that is G!d/dess. However, there are cases when
the Spirit refuses, for whatever reason, to return to Spirit. It is my opinion
that these renegade Spirits are out of the Will of G!d/dess, and it is they who
become the entities that we call “ghosts.” These Spirits refuse to be separated
from Matter, and as a result continue to hold onto the impression of Matter,
which does not allow them to pass over fully into Spirit and to be reincarnated
into another life time. Rev. Magus |
