Ask AJ!
AJ Foyt, a living legend even before he first dreamed of the IRL, will answer fans' questions in this column as his time permits.

So, AJ how do you think your team will do this season? Do you think you and Salazar will be able to regain your winning form from two years ago? TexFan

AJ - Well TexFan, let me tell you that LC (I call him LC since I can't never say his name right) and I are going to give it a good old Texas try this year. LC is one guldern good racer and he's about the most polite driver I've ever had work for me. He says "Yes, sir" and "No, sir" better than all the others put together. I will say he's probably the most generous driver I've ever had working for me. He's quite generous, in fact. And every afternoon he runs out and gets me ice cream. I think we'll do just fine this year.

Whenever I see you and Tony George together at the track I can see that each of you have a great deal of admiration for each other. When Tony was growing up did you ever think he would turn into such a fine leader? IRL4ever

AJ - He, he, he. You just reminded me of one of the first times I ever saw Tony. He must of been about no more than two years old. It was in our garage at Indy and Tony's grandad, Mr. Hulman came through Gasoline Alley with him. Mr. Hulman was kind of upset that Tony's mom had taken off to drink some lemonade under an infield shade tree with Jim McElreath's crew. We stood there talking a bit and Mr. Hulman asked me to look after young Tony while he went to the bathroom. Well, while I was watching Tony he got this huge grin on his face and then it became quite apparent that the youngster had filled his diapers. Boy, let me tell you he surely stunk up the place. I'll be damned if I was going to clean him up so we waited for his grandad to return. He didn't think it was too funny. I remind him of that from time to time. We get plenty of laughs about that to this day. I knew he was destined for greatness.

It sounds like Roger Penske will be joining Chip Ganassi at Indy this year. How do you feel about CART teams running at Indy? Oldtimer from Speedway

AJ - Hey, Oldtimer, good question. You know, it's the biggest race in the whole world and its the one win that everyone remembers so I can understand why those boys want to come here and run it. But you know, its our race, not theirs. If they want to run Indy I really think they should do it right and run the whole schedule and support the series. I suspect I'll talk to Tony about this in May. We can't have this sort of thing get out of hand.

I keep seeing rumors on the internet about the IRL running some road courses in the future. How do you feel about that? Left turns only

AJ - Well, Lefty I nearly ended my driving career on a damned road course. But I've got nothing against road courses, they're fine for club racing and all but that type of racing really doesn't support the American oval tradition does it? If rumors are getting out on the internet I guess I'll have to talk to Tony about this also.

Mr. Foyt, I'm 14 years old and I would like to become a race driver in the IRL. What is the best way for me to learn and what tips can you give me? Thanks, Mickey

AJ - Mickey, you've chosen a wonderful career. First of all get yourself down to the local garage and learn all you can about how those guys talk about cars. Then go out back and run yourself full blast into a brick wall about 5 or 6 times. Then go home and fix yourself about a 20 oz. steak and then see if you can pick a fight with the neighbor kid after supper. Keep this up for about 6 weeks and then you'll be ready to start looking for a ride. When you get old enough to drink, make sure you start with whiskey and finish with beer, not the other way around. You'll do fine. If you find yourself with a real good sponsor and need some more help, give me a call.

What was it like racing against drivers like Mario Andretti? Dipstick

AJ - Ha, you really picked a good one there. First of all, I never cared for him then and I care less for that whiney snot now. All he ever did was complain when he wasn't wrecking and hell yes, I put him in the wall a time or two but its nothing he didn't deserve. I really get tired of him. I'd take him on right now. Race track or not. And you can tell him that for me. No one would have ever heard of him had he not won Indy. For Chrisakes he sure tried enough there didn't he?

I'm having a problem with my laptop. For some reason I'm not able to read all of the files on the hard disk. Do you have any ideas on how to fix it? Stumped in Indy

AJ - Well, Stumped, first of all get yourself down to the nearest Sears And Roebucks and pick up a Craftsman rubber mallet. They have three sizes and I usually use the middle one for laptop repair. Then put your laptop on its side and give it a couple of raps with the hammer. Not so hard that you crack the case but hard enough to let it know who is boss. If that don't fix it then you probably should call the company that made it and tell them something is really wrong and hope like hell its still in warranty.

Mr. Foyt, I might be your biggest fan. I met you at the Texas race a couple of years ago and wonder if we could meet again and maybe go out for a drink? KnockOff

AJ - I remember you, you're that runt with the fruity shirts, aren't you? Look son, I told you then- keep the hell away from me. That PhotoShop crap you pulled still gives me the creeps every time I think about it.

Well fans, that's all the time I've got for now. Keep following number 14. Thanks a godamn helluvalot, see you at the races.
