One common misconception about Jihaad-

The idea that Jihaad-un-Nafs (struggle against yourself) has replaced Jihaad-al-kuffar (struggle against the disbelievers) is very famous among muslims nowadays. They usually quote from a certain hadith which has in fact been classified as fabricated by Ibn Hajar. The great scholar Ibn-Ul-Qayyim said this fabricated hadith is obnoxious. But cowards  and hypocrites would always quote it because the hate the idea to die (even for the sake of Allah!).

It is true that jihaad is divided into 4 categories: Jihad against self, Jihad against shaytaan, jihad against the disbelievers and jihad against the hypocrites. Obviously, before reaching the level of 'jihad against the kuffar' one must do 'jihad-un-nafs'. When we are no more materialistic we see and practice the truth.

Therefore the hadith which needs to be quoted isfrom Saheeh Muslim: Muhamad (peace be upon him) said: He who died and didnt fight and didnt have intentions to do Jihaad, died on a branch of hypocrisy

Muhammad
