Letters to the Editor

Setting the Record Straight
By Robert E. Martin
The only 'Letters' I wish to publish this issue are those of
apology for two errors that occurred in the last edition of The Review.
One-day prior to our deadline, we received a letter which contained a
completely false rumor concerning the U.S. Postal Service that apparently
is being circulated on Internet e-mail. As a matter of fact, the Postal
Service has learned that a similar hoax occurred recently in Canada
concerning Canada Post.
This letter claimed that a "Congressman Schnell" has introduced "Bill
602P" to allow the federal government to impose a 5-cent surcharge on each
e-mail message delivered over the Internet. The money would be collected by
Internet Service Providers and then turned over to the Postal Service.
No such proposed legislation exists. In fact, no "Congressman Schnell"
exists. The U.S. Postal Service has issued a statement noting that it has no
authority to surcharge e-mail messages sent over the Internet, nor would it
support such legislation.
Given Congressional tendencies (especially in Michigan) to press through
broad-sweeping legislation with very little public scrutiny, when we
received this letter we wanted to bring it to our readers' attention.
However, we were remiss in not investigating the verity of this legislation
further prior to publishing it, and apologize for misleading our readers.
WILL THE REAL SLIM SHADY PLEASE STAND UP?
Secondly, in last issue's interview by Ed McArdle with Iron Maiden's Adrian
Smith, we mistakenly published the photos of the group's other axeman,
Steve Harris.
Our photographer, Kay McEntee, was in London for two weeks and we were
unable to reach her for identification purposes, and we also were unable to
get hold of Ed. Consequently, I was referred to an old Heavy Metal mag
that featured the band, which apparently also had the identity of these
members mis-labeled.
But actually, it was more a case of something out of The Beatles 'A Day in
the Life': "I woke up - got out of bed - and then proceeded to bump my head.
I went downstairs to have a smoke, somebody spoke, and then I fell into a
dream" actually, a 'deadline nightmare' is more appropriate.
At any rate, for the sake of 'purity', we are publishing the correct photos
of Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith below.

Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith
glances over to fellow bandmate Steve Harris
with knowing amazement now that the two have
gotten so tight together musically they are
able to morph into each other's being without
the aide of video effects.

Review rock scribe Ed McArdle and Adrian
seem pleased that Adrian now has his
identity back.
