-==[NovA]==- Tutor #5

It is very, very easy

Program : SmartDIR  v2.0

    URL : http://www.gavlockconsulting.com

  Toolz : 1) Softice

Lets get started...

1) Start up SmartDir, regular Nag... Click "help" then "Enter Reg. Code"

2) Enter your name and a fake reg code..
	Enter Somting easily remembered... (cakewalk1, for me)

Name:  -==[NovA]==-
Reg. Code:  cakewalk1

3)	Now, hit Ctrl + D to goto softice. Set a BPX on getwindowtexta then
	back to Smart dir.

4)	Hit OK and watch softice do its magic. Hit "F5" then "F11" to
	trace. Now we will <search> for our serial.

note: searching for the faked serial is one of my most productive
	ways to either 1) find the correct serial, or 2) find the
	location that the reg info is stored.

5) 	In softice, type

	s 0 l ffffffff 'cakewalk1'

	^ ^ ^     ^          ^
 search |0 address| length 8| search for cakewalk1

6) Now in the top data window, you *should* see your name,
	and your faked reg code.

7) Hold the "ALT" key and press "UP". You should see about 5 lines above
	where softice found your faked serial, a *real* serial, above that
	an inverse of your name, and above that your name..

	Mine looks like this:

	-==[NovA]==-
	-==]AvoN[==-
	950381  <---------Bingo!

	cakewalk1
	-==[NovA]==-

8) Take that serial (BINGO) and input that with the name you choose.

	Regged?
	Coo!

To practice, just go back, imput a wrong serial, exit, and try again :)
or del the registry value @
