An Empty Bottle

Pour us the golden

Pour us the silver

Pour us the scarlet

Pour us the frozen

I taste last night's love in my morning mouth

The bitter taste of wine lingering 'round

Red turning to tooth scum

That bottle of old rum

Forming a placate of plaque on the line of my gums

I cannot brush it away; Must force its eternal stay

That way I can have just one more memory of the night

And it's magical spell

That feeling of your arms around me

Please smile that same old smile for me

Sing me the same song you did last year

Laugh for no reason; live in that season of superfluous words

Cry in the way you did in December

The bottles are practically empty now

The gold's all gone, the silver's low

That wine's a vinaigrette to season your salad

With an added spice

Just pour me some gin now

Pour me some of that whiskey

To help us recite last year's celebratory songs

Of lovers and love

Our love is so strong

It makes objects in our house

Wrap those blankets around me

And tell me those secrets you've told me before

About those abuses, recluses, stories whispered in my ear

Nonsensical music we've made together

The words of promises never made to last

Forever

Pour us the golden

Pour us the silver

Pour us the scarlet

Pour us the frozen

Please sip it slowly

Fall asleep on me; Let me love you

Caress your body, follow the veins

May I dance in your dreams?

Don't walk away from this movie's screen

Let us try for the perfect ending

A Funeral without Mourning

A Life without Dying

A Love without Losing

Just drink one more glass of that wine with me

One more sip from the bottle's rim

Before it is emptied, bottom to brim

And you leave me here trying so hard

To make cider out of a basket of rotten apples

Once fruitful, colorful

Alive!
