Replaced lower ball joints with ones from a HumVee H1

           Revcon original                                      Hummer H1

The shank is the same height. The taper is the same. The rubber is not

collapsed on the H1 joint so it makes the shank look shorter, but it is the same.

Notice the Hummer joint has a grease fitting.

Perfect Fit, only need to drill out the 4 mounting holes                                       Ball joint installed

New source for lower ball joints found for '79 and up

For all the Slant nose owners out there, '79 and newer, there is a new source for lower ball joints. It has been known for some time that the lower ball joints for a Slant nose were no longer made and there had been a somewhat limited supply of replacements. There is a new source that requires a very minor modification that will work in the lower position. It is the lower ball joint for a HumVee H1. The part number is 6006645 and at the time of this writing, most Hummer dealers stock this part. You can either request the part by number or request a lower ball joint for a '98 or newer H1.

To install this part, it requires some minor drilling, as the mounting holes in the new Hummer ball joint are larger than the original Revcon ball joint. Fortunately, the holes are close enough in alignment that (temporarily) you can bolt up the Hummer ball joint with the original Revcon mounting bolts. (Note: This should only be done for alignment purposes and should never be driven this way). Remove each bolt, one at a time, and drill from the bottom side up, a 7/16 hole. Put the new larger bolt into that spot and then progress to the next hole, pull the small original bolt out, drill the hole,  and so on. This will make sure that all the holes are properly aligned so that there will be no slop in the final installation.

One more thing to note: the new Hummer H1 ball joint is heavier duty than the original ball joint. It also has a grease fitting, which the original Revcon ones did not. I'm am looking forward to many years of good service from these new heavier duty lower ball joints. Also, when requesting this part, do not confuse an H1 Hummer and an H2 Hummer. They are two entirely different vehicles and the H2 ball joints will not work in the Revcon, only the H1 will work. If you have any questions about this installation, you can email me at Daveinet. The provider name is netzero.com .
