| Lower Forty Bjorn Gelding Birth Date: June 12, 1995 Brown Dun. No White Markings Registration Number C1329 |
We were first introduced to the Norwegian Fjord breed of horse when visiting the home of D&E Wanner. A neighbouring farm had several of these horses and once we saw these lovely animals, our interest was peaked. Little did we know, when we first saw these Fjords, that one day, we would be lucky enough to own several of these fine animals. |
Bjorn is the oldest male in our little herd and his primary role is protector of the herd. He is an excellent protector- ever on the look out for threats to the younger animals. Usually, Bjorn follows the others as they wander about the pastures. However, whenever the herd perceives what they believe to be a threat to them, Bjorn is very quickly the leader. The mares stand behind their protector, Bjorn, when they become frightened. We know that should the situation ever arise, Bjorn would do everything in his power to protect his herd. He would be a formidable foe. |

| When Lake of the Prairies Drader was born, Bjorn was the most concerned about the new arrival in the herd. For some time after Serina gave birth to Drader, they were segregated in a separate paddock. Serina was very protective and seemed to be much more comfortable when she was alone with her young one. Bjorn was equally protective of the young one. After Drader's birth, he spent the majority of his time beside the paddock that housed Serina and Drader. Although he had no direct access to Serina and her new baby, Bjorn was able to see them and he seemed to be trying to guard the newest member of the herd. While the others will wonder off into the pasture to graze, Bjorn maintained his vigel by the paddock. When the herd was eventually reunited, Drader had two wonderful protectors, his mom and Bjorn. |
