This is a prototype box that I finished last summer. It is the predecessor to the boxes I will present as a wedding/anniversary gift to my friends Jim and Gillian Mowry. These boxes will come in sets of at least two. Each box is the key to the other one, and vice-versa. When one is stacked on the other one and the center piece in the lid of the lower box is pulled out... |
...the lower box will open. That is the only way to open them, though, because of a locking mechanism in the lid. If a box does not have its complimentary box stacked on top of it, the center piece in the lid will not move to unlatch it. The box is made of red oak, as will be the actual gift boxes, with a few other minor differences and hopefully a herringbone design in the lid, inlaid in different kinds of veneer. |
