| One of the bigger challenges for a coin-op arcade collector is finding replacement side art for your game. Most side art was actually a large sticker.. which would get peeled, poked, torn, or stolen over the life of the game. Some repo artwork is now avaliable thru online companies for more popluar games (Donkey Kong, Pac-Man...ect.) but for some harder to find or less popular games, large runs of off-set printed side art just is not economicly possible. So how do you create your own side art. First find a great scan (see links below) or find a fellow collector who has some "NOS" (new old stock) replacement side art they can scan for you. Some skill in Photoshop is also helpfull for clean up of the scan. Next, find a print house or graphics studio with a high quality large format ink jet printer. Not all larger format ink jets are the same... most newer generation ones can produce amazing quailty (if you scan is a good, high res. one) look for a ink jet that prints on at least 300-600 dpi, with 6 ink jet carts, although the newest printers now print up to 1200-1600 dpi! Adhesive backed papers will also help you apply the art to your game, and will eliminate you need for messy spray mounting. A thin laminate will also help preserve the art .. and most better laminates will not dull the look of the art. |
