Debut single 'Love In a Different Vein' was enough for Beggars Banquet records to sign them, and an independent chart hit followed with 'Justice In Freedom'. Emphasising their trademark distorted blues riffs, demand was high enough to warrant extra copies being printed.
'Soul Trader' followed, along with support slots for Spacemen 3 and Gaye Bykers on Acid, which where recorded for posterity on their first album release ' Live'r Than God' in 1989. Further touring followed, with an American tour supporting the Cult gaining them further praise.
Their first studio album was released early in 1990. 'Come Down Honey' displayed a more refined sound, and members of the Pretty Things made guest appearances, and the band appeared at the Reading Festival later that year.
'Soul, Glitter and Sin' was a well-produced follow-up, but in 1992, a band member died of a heroin overdose, and the subsequent album 'The Very Crystal Speed Machine' mourned his passing with a tribute track simply titled 'Goodbye'.
