LP Review: Stiv Bators and his Evil Boys 'Live at the Limelight' - Perfect Beat Records 1988.
With musicians Steve Von Saint, Danny Nordahl (later of the Throbs and N.Y Loose), Augie Raia and Cheetah Chrome (Stiv's sidekick in the Dead Boys), this live album was recorded at the Limelight Club in New York, on January 3 1988.

Running through material from each period of his career, with solo efforts like 'Evil Boy' alongside the Dead Boys classic 'Sonic Reducer', a common thread can be seen throughout Stiv's career that is laced with love of catchy garage pop and trashy rock 'n' roll.  Closing with two Dead Boys songs, Stiv also knew what the fans wanted from him, and managed to balance this with his newer material, as well as a cover  version of the garage-blues classic 'Have Love, Will Travel'.

As with most 'live albums' the sound is obviously not as layered as the studio versions of some of these tracks, but never one to keep his mouth shut, Stiv's in-between song banter gives you snippets of information about songs both old and new.

Bearing in mind that Stiv died less than two years after this recording, this is a fine example of the talent that disappeared when he left, and also gives a taster of the direction he might have taken.  With Guns n' Roses rising to the top of the music industry at the time the album was released, Stiv may have finally been recognised as an influential artist if he had stayed around a little longer.
