Prolapse formed in Leicester during the early 1990's, and feature David Jeffreys, Linda Steelyard, Mick Derrick, Mick Harrison, Pat Marsden and Tim Pattison. After confusing the regulars on the local gig circuit they came to the attention of a handful of record companies. They signed to indie label Cherry Red, who released their first two E.P.'s in the summer of '93, both of which were picked as Single Of the week on BBC Radio 1's Evening Session. The debut album 'Pointless Walks To Dismal Places' was similarly well received, while the chaotic, temper tantrums that were Prolapse's early live gigs gained them a cult following.

Mick's unhinged Glaswegian ranting and Linda's neurotic monologues, (whilst part of the attraction) often distract the listener from some truly exciting and beautiful music.  Possible influences might be Stereolab, Joy Division and My Bloody Valentine, but their songs often sound like ten other bands compressed into a small box. They create tension and a completely unique sound out of the mixture, using brutal rhythmic basslines and guitar riffs backed with mesmeric keyboard sounds and precise drumming. One music writer has described it as 'uneasy listening'.

A mini-album 'Back Saturday' was released later in 1993, but only when they signed to Radar Records in late 1996 did they finally manage to record a full album. 'The Italian Flag' was an ambitious step forward for the band, and was voted one of the top albums of 1997 by NME journalists.

In a long running bid to find the perfect label to support their unusual approach to music, Prolapse are now signed to Cooking Vinyl, who released their fourth album, 'Ghosts Of Dead Aeroplanes', in 1999.

Prolapse have toured with Pulp, Stereolab, Sonic Youth, Mogwai and Sebadoh, and most were  by personal invitation from the bands themselves. Apparently, film star Drew Barrymore is also a big fan!

The hyperactive nature of the band members evident in Prolapse' releases has also led to various side projects, although none have yet been as successful and rewarding.
