Their debut album in 1992 was a re-affirmation of Henderson's abrasive pop-style and quirky sense of rhythm. Critical reactions to this release were unspectacular, although a following release collecting Radio 1 sessions 'Guitar Thieves' showed further influences with cover versions of tracks by Captain Beefheart and Velvet Underground tracks.
An American release compiling the early album and singles, 'Niagara Falls', featured one new track titled 'This Arsehole's Been Burned Too Many Times Before', which appeared in the UK as a limited edition 7" single.
Albums have continued to emerge to praiseworthy but restrained reviews, and have mostly been viewed as low-key efforts not likely to trouble the charts. It seems the mature, left-field songwriting approach that Henderson has employed to varying degrees of success is destined to remain at cult level, with only John Peel offering ongoing support and exposure to a wider audience.
Although the Nectarine No.9 had maintained a near non-existant profile since the release of their "Saint Jack" album and tour with Edwyn Collins in 1995, they had not been altogether unemployed. 1997 saw the release of poet Jock Scot's "My Personal Culloden" album, on which they were featured as house band, co-writers and producers, providing what the NME described as "an appropriately sordid soundtrack," by "Edinburgh's premier voodoo beat seditionists."
The Nectarine No.9 returned from two years of relative inactivity in early 1998 with a new album, "Fried For New Material" on Creeping Bent Records. The album was followed two weeks later by the release of one of it's many outstanding tracks, "Adidas Francis Bacon" as a single.
