(subtitled - is anyone really interested?)
In my early twenties I was producing a free-expression fanzine, 'SCATHE', which featured exclusive interviews (soon to be published on this site!) with Richey Edwards from the Manic Street Preachers, and members of S*M*A*S*H, These Animal Men and Babes In Toyland. (We also featured poetess Joolz who worked with New Model Army)
Eventually it all became too much and I couldn't hide from my creative urges any longer. I formed BABY DOLL, a band that were described as 'featuring Manics style intelligence, Kenickie style glitter, and Ramones style punk'. Not a bad summary in my opinion, but unfortunately, after 5 years, 10 studio tracks, and several bass players, our vocalist couldn't take any more shit-hole venue gigs and left. (If anyone is still reading and wants to hear BABY DOLL, ask nicely and I might supply a tape free of charge)
The crushing disappointment this caused turned to an advantage, as the spare time suddenly at my disposal meant I had the resources to create the RETRO PALACE website!
Incidentally - I do actually listen to all of the bands featured on the site - it would seem pointless for me to waste time and energy on anyone I thought was crap. If anyone wants to talk about any of the bands here, email : [email protected]
