Retro League

Rules

This page outlines the rules that the Retro League abides by. They are pretty straight forward and you should find

no confusion about any of them. However, if you do, simply ask.

1.) all proposed changes to the leagues rules must be voted upon by its
members and need a majority vote to pass. a tie is not a majority.

2.) no rules may be changed once the season has begun

3.) batters are limited to 105% of their real at bats per season, any batter
exceeding that will be removed from that team, the team will be barred from
the playoffs and will select last in the next draft.

4.) pitchers are limited to 105% of their real number of innings pitched per
season, see batter consequences above

5.) a pitcher must be rated as a starter to start a game

6.) each team must carry enough active players on its roster so that there is
a backup for each position

7.) the top 4 teams will meet in a year end playoff, the team with the best
record plays the team with the fourth best record, the team with the second
best record plays the team with the third best record. in the event of a tie
for 4th best record there will be a 1 game playoff between those teams. any
other ties will be decided by head to head records, if a tie remains, the
league commissioner will flip a coin.

8.) players playoff eligibilty is limited to 10% of their real at
bats/innings pitched per playoff series

8A.) injuries during playoffs last the duration of that series only

9.) any manager not turning in instructions/ rotations in any two successive
periods will be dropped from the league, it is expected that all managers
will be VERY prompt with sending out rotations and computer managers. My
definition of prompt is a couple of days.

10.) the league will expand as the major leagues did, example, when we get to
1976 two new managers will be added to the league, rules for expansion draft
to be determined.

11.) all teams will  play an equal number of games against each other each
season
example, in an 8 team league we’d play the other 7 teams 22 times (11 home,
11 away) and have a 154 game season.

12.) the dh rule will not be used unless voted in by the league members when
we reach the 1973 season

13.) end of year drafts will be held in reverse order of finish from the
previous year’s season.

14.) injuries last for that series only. example a player is hurt for 15
games in the first game of a four game series, he misses only the rest of the
games in that series.

15.) all trades must be verified by email to league commissioner by both
parties involved, i must recieve email from both parties involved before the
league is sent to everyone for that “phase”

16.) trading deadline shall be one month before end of regular season, (30
games)
active rosters will be unlimited for last month of the season

17.) initial seasons draft order shall be determined by plucking names from a
hat (a ball cap will be used and my 3 year old son shall do above mentioned
plucking)

18.) playoffs will be best of seven, first 2 home games go to team with best
regular season record, then 2 games at opponent with lesser record, then
alternate home and away game by game thereafter

19.) home ballpark must be one of the ballparks of one of the teams you
draft, ballparks cannot be traded

20.) after each season you may keep as many players (up to 35) as you wish,
your team will then recieve as many draft picks as it takes to get you back
to 35 players (you keep 30 players you get 5 picks, you keep 10 players you
get 25 picks)

21.) season will be divided into 5-10 phases of games, with deadlines of 1-2
weeks for playing those games, this schedule will be determined by the league
commish (thats me) before the season and is subject to change at any time.....
