| *There are a number of hairstyles that can finish a retro look, too many to mention on here in fact, but there are some that are very simple to do, and just need a bit of practice. | ||||||||||||||

| The roll Some might say the epitome of 1940's style, the reverse roll creates instant glamour, and is not so hard to do (with practise...) 1. take a section of hair, roughly 1-2 inches wide, but NOT thick. 2. place index finger of left hand at bottom of strand, with about half an inch at the bottom. 3. then with other hand, place right hand index finger underneath the excess, rolling the hair OVER the first finger. 4. (it's sounding complicated right?) 5. then, alternately roll the hair up, by moving the two index fingers around each other. 6.with bobby pins or hair grips secure the roll once it is fairly close to your head. when you're happy withthe position, secure with more grips so that it doesn't fall out. |

| The Headscarf Possibly the most recognisable wartime hair-do, made for practicality (or if you were having a really bad hair day!) 1.take a large square silk/cotton scarf, and fold it in half diagonally, so it makes a triangle. 2.put the longest edge behind your neck, so that your hair drapes over the scarf. 3.take both the left and right corners of the triangle and pull them up to the top of your head, then tie a knot. 4..find the 3rd, bottom corner and pull that to the top, tucking in any hair, and place it on top of the previous knot, the other two corners should still be available to tie over the top of the 3rd one. 5. then tuck in any excess, and put some grips in if it'll make it more secure. |
