Prevent-A-Bite
Brooklyn
demonstrates the proper way to pet a dog
after
you have permission and have let the dog smell your fist.
This
program is designed to teach young children Kindergarten through 5th grade
how
to NOT be bitten by a dog.
Using
Jake and Cobi, both Canine Good Citizens and registered Animal Assisted
Therapists, we demonstrate through hands-on-instruction how nice it is
to own a well trained dog.
Topics
of Discussion include but are not limited to...
*
Reading Dog Language-Know what the dog is telling you.
*Approach
of a dog on lead with owner present. (What to do and not to do)
*Approach
of a dog with no owner present. (Is this a good choice?)
*What
to do if a dog jumps on you and/or comes after you. (Be a tree, act like
a log)
*Practice
and Application of principals using a friendly dog.
*Discussion
of Pet Care (spaying and neutering with older children)
The
above is a very abbreviated version of the 45 minute talk and practice
session I do with young children using my wonderful Goldens Jake and Cobi.
The reward for being great
listeners and participating in the PREVENT-A-BITE is a demonstration of
dog training. Usually agility obstacles, dumbell retrieves and signal
exercises are used to demonstrate the dogs are very smart, good listeners
and teachers.
Not tooo far now.
