Physical Description:

T'lene is rather tall, by his standards at least, and stands 5'10" tall when Earth's slightly higher gravity is taken into account. He's very well built, with strong arms and legs needed to guide a healthy dragon, especially a bronze. He has copper brown hair, which always manages to look windblown, no matter how he tries to manage it, which is cropped short, like all dragonriders'. He has blue eyes which are darker than what's usually seen on Earth and his skin is also darker, though it looks quite light in comparison to his bronze's scales. His skin is also very rough as a result of years of training in all sorts of rough conditions.

Personality:

T'lene is a rather unorthodox dragonrider, which isn't very surprising considering he grew up without knowing that the horror of /thread/ was always on the horizon. He's a little uneducated, a little spoiled, a little rough and tumble, but an all-together likeable person...if you have a lot of patience. His manners aren't exactly courtly, but he never does anything rude, just acts a little unpolished. He has an honest, blunt way of speaking and when pressed on the issue can get right to point, a good quality when one's occupation demands giving commands to an entire wing of dragons during the fall of /thread/. To T'lene there is no one and no thing that is more important than Mordith, his dragon and he won't let anyone jeopardise his well-being. He also tends to forget that when he's not riding Mordith, he's not invincible. He also tends to be a little slow on the uptake, but Mordith usually makes up for that.

Background History:

T'lene Impressed bronze Mordith on the hatching grounds of Benden Weyr. This had been a long time coming because at first he wasn't sure whether it had been he who had been Searched, or whether it had been one of his siblings, who was there at the time. The problem being that one of those siblings was his identical twin and T'lene, then Tirilene, was very uneasy about the possibility of being Searched. It was always his twin who mentioned, though very rarely, about some vague dream of going off to the Weyr and flying, but Tirilene had always expected that he would grow up and follow in his father's footsteps, settling down to a peaceable existence hunting wild game, doing various administrative tasks for the profitable Ruatha Hold and maybe, if he was very lucky, ferrying messages back and forth between Holds and possibly even the Weyr. When he was found on Search by blue Dornath and his rider B'lon it took a lot of convincing to get him to come to the Hatching grounds. However, Yurnith's first clutch was hardening on the sands and the Hatching could take place anytime, so it was imperative that Tirilene be brought to the Weyr and prepared for it. So, leaving his siblings to take care of things during his absence, however long that would be, he left for what he would find out later was the start of his new life as a dragonrider of Pern.

Tirilene became T'lene when he Impressed Mordith and, after being assured by one of the Junior Weyrwomen that his parents would be notified, never had time to think of his family again. By now, Mordith has become all the family he will never need...and his success at catching a prolific number of greens and one gold has provided all the rest.

It was hardly a disappointment when T'lene found that /thread/ was gone forever, as it made his stomach churn to think of Mordith's wings scarred by their searing, agonising fire. Of course, anything at YUME could hardly compare to the adventure he was used to. It took several years for the dragonriders of Pern to figure out how to go between to reach Earth, especially since the discovery of alternate universes, but somehow T'lene managed to find his way...through a moment of brash recklessness (which he occasionally likes to brag about) to the Earth where YUME was alive and well. Finding no other place which would even compare to his life on Pern, T'lene enrolled himself (however, he failed to mention his dragon when he applied). He still can't think of a way to get himself back home, but he knows Mordith's patience will eventually run out and he'll have to think of some way. Until then, he stays in a separate, more secluded (and definitely larger) dorm so that he can be with Mordith.

Since he arrived on this Earth he has discovered a latent psychic ability...which appears to be slowly taking over. Unfortunately, T'lene has no idea of its existence and is unconsciously blocking it from Mordith.

Strengths:

  1. Animal Kin
  2. Psychic Power

Weaknesses: T'lene's strengths are ironically his weaknesses as well. T'lene isn't used to being forced to fight without his dragon, but he couldn't find a Major at YUME which would cater to his unique style of fighting. Mecha was close, but he would never try to pass Mordith off as a robotic gizmo (Pernese are characteristically wary of too much technology, anyway). However, even though he's out of his depth he carries on as though he's still aboard his dragon, because dragonriders are used to enjoying a very high status which gives them near immunity in terms of conflicts with other people. Also, because Mordith is so important to him it's theoretical that the bronze could also be a weak point which could be used against him.

A more serious weakness is T'lene's strengthening psychic ability. T'lene never exhibited any psychic power, other than being able to speak mind-to-mind with his dragon, when he was on Pern, but since he came to Earth it has made itself apparent. When he uses this psychic power the whites and irises of his eyes disappear, leaving them a dark, complete, inky black colour and his skin becomes very pale. When this happens he acts completely different: cold, intent, even malicious to an extent. The more he excels, the more bold this trait seems to become in him. However, at this point T'lene still has no idea that this exists and has no recollection of whatever he does when he is in that state. All he knows is that he has psychic powers that he never had before. Mordith has noticed that there is a part of T'lene's mind blocked to him, but he believes it is only something private which he should not pry into.

Equipment:

  1. DRAGON'S INFORMATION
  2. Dragon's Name: Mordith

    Dragon's Colour: Bronze

    Dragon's Age In Years: 8

Age of Rider when he/she Impressed: 14

    Dragon's Description:

Mordith isn't so big as he is long. As far as bronze's go, he's an averaged sized dragon, but he has unusually long wings and an unusually long tail, which have caused him both admiration and ridicule in equal amounts. The added length gives him better agility and speed, but also makes things difficult for him at times.

    Dragon's Personality:

Unlike his rider, Mordith would have liked the chance to fight thread, it being a very instinctual part of his nature. He misses the taste of wherrie, but finds the food YUME supplies him to be an interesting change from his usual diet. Mordith is very intelligent which, combined with T'lene's less intellectual nature, makes them a good pair. T'lene doesn't mind admitting that Mordith is the brains of the operation, but Mordith is also more modest, usually trying to draw attention to his rider, though for a being his size that's very hard to do. Mordith likes fighting, but knows that fighting without cause is wrong... However, that won't stop him from suggesting to T'lene that maybe this or that reason is enough to justify combat. As well as fighting, Mordith is understandably fond of...well, we won't get into that.

  3. As well as harnesses, armour, etc. suitable for riding Mordith and fighting /thread/, T'lene owns a high powered telescope which he uses to watch the YUME campus from the residence he and Mordith share...which helps fuel their hobby of commenting on everything they see (If you want to be blunt about it, I suppose you could call is spying and gossiping).

Moves:

  1. Red Star: This move is named because, like the Red Star which continually plagued Pern with /thread/ in never-ending (well, previously never-ending) cycles, it also goes in a cycle. How does it work? T'lene utilises his psychic powers to overcome his opponent's mind, freezing their perception of time so that they believe they are reliving the same cycle of events (i.e. an unbreakable hallucination cycle) over and over, like a time loop. Against other psychics he uses Mordith's strong (it's been bred into the species for generations, so it's understandably strong, being naturally in them) mind-to-mind abilities to enhance this attack. Mordith is so trusting of his rider that he won't question his motives, especially since combat is concerned. This move takes too much concentration to use in mounted combat.
  2. Black, Blacker, Blackest: T'lene uses his psychic powers to maintain the portal Mordith creates when they go /between/, causing the arena to become deathly cold, dark, and basically for all other sensory perception to disappear. This doesn't really serve any purpose other than to give T'lene a moment to pause and reconsider strategy, as well as giving him an extra moment to relay instructions to Mordith. In addition, it usually confuses the hell out of his enemies.
  3. T'lene only has two known moves, but he, or more likely Mordith, is capable of creating any number of new and inventive strategic moves. The advantage Mordith gives T'lene in terms of defence, flight, strengths, manoeuvrability, etc. negate the necessity of his coming up with any unique specialities.

[ice_song's note: the background colour used in these profiles indicates rank, the closer to black it is the higher up in the YUME ladder. Sort of like how security clearance level is sometimes colour coded. ^_^;]
