Zelig paused in midstride as he realised that the girl was behind them. She was so quiet that he hadn't heard her until now. He turned around to face her, slinging an arm around Xavier's shoulder to turn the boy around as well.
"I'm sorry." he said sincerely. "We were caught up in our thoughts. I'm Zelig and this is Xavier. It's nice to meet you Hikaru."
She seemed molified by the apology.
"We're on our way to class." Zelig explained.
"No friends." Xavier said softly as he turned his head away from Hikaru.
"Xavier." Zelig said, astonished.
"No friends, please, G-Zelig." Xavier said in a quite voice, hiding his face in Zelig's shoulder. "Not now."
"Alright." Zelig said understandingly, patting Xavier on the back soothingly.
He turned to a confused Hikaru.
"I'm sorry about Xavier." he said apologetically. "But a friend of his died recently."
Xavier stiffened at the words, knowing exactly who this "friend" was.
"And he's just not ready to make a new friend yet. I hope you will forgive us for our rudeness." Zelig finished. "However, we can always talk in class if you would like."
