Fanuilh and Cresta stepped out of the OR and returned to the room where Zohn and Ananda were. Fanuilh's lab coat was spotted with blood but she reverted to dragon form and a medic whisked the coat away.
"That was great!" Fanuilh said happily, revealing long teeth in a grin. "Best surgery I've had in a while."
"Who was it?" Zohn asked quickly.
"Your daughter sir." Cresta said.
Zohn paled slightly.
"Is she alright?" he asked.
"Of course she is. I did my job." Fanuilh snapped, his good mood ruined by Zohn's question.
"She's going to be fine." Cresta assured. "The doc did a great job."
"Of course." Fanuilh mumbled.
Zohn looked relieved. Then a medic entered the room.
"Doc, you better have a look at this." the medic said, handing the dragon a chart.
Fanuilh read the chart and then growled in frustration.
"Go check the cabinet and see if the trilum is still there." he ordered.
The medic hurried out.
"Trilum?" Cresta asked in mild alarm.
"Someone seems to have got their hands on a supply of trilum." Fanuilh muttered. "The girl was injected with it right before the operation I think."
"But she wouldn't need trilum." Cresta protested.
"I know." Fanuilh grumped. "That's why it's strange. Another student came in earlier with a trilum drugged friend."
"Drugged? Who was it?" Zohn demanded.
"I don't know their names." Fanuilh snapped. "The patient was a red haired male. The one who brought him in was a taller male with black hair in a braid with a grey streak."
"Terry." Zohn muttered with a slightly pained look.
"Shall I check on him?" Cresta asked.
"No need. I sent them to their dorms." Fanuilh replied.
"But Doc-"
"Don't worry, the black haired boy knew what trilum was. They'll be fine." Fanuilh reassured. "We will have to watch out for the girl though."
The medic returned.
"The liquid trilum is not missing Doc." he informed.
"So who has some?" Cresta wondered.
"What is trilum?" Zohn asked finally.
"An anesthetic." Cresta replied. "It is harmless and works quite well but it has bad side effects."
"We stopped using it a year ago and keep it for special circumstances." Fanuilh said.
"What's so bad about it?" Zohn asked.
"It has a six stage recovery process." Cresta said. "Stage one is when the patient vomits. Stage two is when the patient forgets to breathe. Stage three is when the patient giggles hysterically. Stage four is when the patient becomes overheated, sweating out the trilum. Stage five is when the patient begins to itch. The final stage is when the patient has violent shivers which removes the last of the trilum. If they scratch then the trilum will re-enter the body. It's dangerous if we don't know that a patient has been injected."
"We were just doing a cursory check." Fanuilh muttered.
"Should we question the student who won the fight?" the medic asked.
"Good idea." Cresta agreed. "Please do so. And notify security if necessary. Oh, and post a medic to watch on the surgery patient."
The medic nodded and left. |
