Yuka rushed in as lockdown finished. She'd balanced out yesterday's early arrival at school by sleeping in today, unintentionally of course. Thus, lockdown had caught her unawares as she was just grabbing for a piece of toast before rushing to class. It was really too bad that she missed the conversations that had taken place in her classroom during the lockdown because she probably would have found them very amusing.
But now she had finally gotten to class...a decidedly small class, it seemed. She looked down the attendance list, smiling when she recognised some of the names from yesterday's Gunsmithing class, and found that there were a few unaccounted for.
"Damon? Kenoshu Antinoko? Noroke Nozomi? Trinity Canell?"
No hands went up, no reply came, the class remained unchanged and the students she had called still unaccounted for. A note from the Principal's office slipped out of the attendance folder and she picked it up, glancing over it before putting it back into the folder. One less person to wonder after; the note had said Noroke would not be attending today's class. There were a few other absentees which she hadn't called, but their roommates had informed her that they either were ill or were in the same state as Noroke. She would ask at the office about the others, but she had a class to get started...a class that had already lost several minutes due to lockdown and her own late arrival.
"Some of you might recognise me from yesterday and I'm glad to see you. For those of you who don't recognise me, but think my name sounds familiar I'll tell you that I also teach Gunsmithing at this school. My names Yuka Teal-Lavoisier (you can call me either by my first or my last name...whichever you're more comfortable with) and unless something unforeseen happens I'll be your teacher for the rest of the year." She sat on her desk at the front of the class as she addressed the students, seeming incredibly informal compared to teachers like Yorick.
"I think we should just do a bit of talking to get acquainted with each other first. No, don't worry, I don't want you to do any of those elementary school "name games" which everyone loves to hate, but I want to get a discussion started. I want to talk about what history is and why it's important. I want you to tell each other and me why it's important to /you/." She laughed, and some people looked at her quizzically. She waved a hand, to ward off the looks and a moment later she'd calmed herself enough so that she could explain. "I was going to say that if anyone could tell me the name of each of their classmates by the end of the class I'd give them a lollipop, but I think Ms. Hinomiya's got them all locked in her desk, if she hasn't eaten them all already." She leaned forward, holding on to the edge of the desk to keep her balance as she asked, "So, would anyone like to begin?" |
