Pyrford shrugged at the end of lockdown, put the cards away (with an apology to those students who had expressed interest in playing with him) and waited a few moments for everyone to return to their seats.

Then he stood before them, leaning on his axe, of course, and smiling at them as if he saw something in them all which pleased him a great deal. "Welcome to my class, everyone. I hope you'll enjoy my company as much as I am sure to enjoy yours."

He turned from them and walked to his right, towards the window, resuming talking after he had almost reached it and turning as he did so. "First off, I would like to apologise to those of you who will notice that for the most part I will teach the history of the native peoples of this planet, the humans. Since even after our spaceways have been opened the main bulk of the population is made up of humans I think it is right that we focus on them first. Later, I'll ask each of you to teach a class about your own heritage so that we can all enrich our understanding of each other."

He paused again and walked to the other side of the room, then once again continued.

"Because YUME is a school based around fighting (some of you may even think that mundane subjects such as the one in which you are being instructed at the moment are unnecessary) the first unit shall reflect that. We're going to study the evolution of warfare in a period of time referred to as "Old Earth", before first contact was made and the stars were opened to the species we call /Homo sapien/."

He walked to he centre of the class before asking, "Can anyone tell me three civilisations which existed in a place called "Mesopotamia", or the Land between the Rivers? I want you to mention what their contributions to warfare were."

OOC: Sorry for not posting, but I didn't have time last week and this week I haven't had a computer (well, that's not completely true, but I used up all the time I had available in the school computer labs researching and writing reports for Biology) up until now. So, umm, here's your introduction to History...^^; Eh heh heh...
