"Good." Duo said as he released the blond boy's wrists. "Why does this stuff always happen to me?" he complained to himself.
He returned his attention to the two boys. They were looking at him now.
"What?" he asked, scowling.
"You were going to tell us what a lockdown was." the blond boy said.
"And what it has to do with us." the brown haired boy added softly.
"Oh right." Duo said with an embarassed laugh. "A lockdown is when they don't want someone leaving the building. Usually it's someone who's commited some crime like killing someone, or trying to kill someone. Anyway, the point is that they lock up the entire area and no one gets in or out."
"But what does this have to do with us?" the blond boy asked. "We are not the criminals."
"Yes. But we are locked in here." Duo reminded. "And a lockdown can remain in effect for days on end. We could be stuck in here with no food or water for a very long time."
The blond boy traded glances with the brown haired boy and they shrugged in unison.
"We have been through worse." the blond boy said.
"Much worse." the brown haired boy whispered.
Duo sighed, these two were getting on his nerves.
"Anyway, I'm sorry I startled the two of you. I'm Duo Maxwell by the way." he said, holding out a hand.
The blond boy shook his hand hesitantly.
"I'm Zelig Sirvatka and this is Xavier Fetherstonhaugh." he said.
"Nice to meet you both." Duo said with a grin. "I have a feeling that we might become friends before we're allowed to leave here."
Both Zelig and Xavier looked a little unnerved at that fact. Duo's face fell.
"I was just kidding." he assured.
He turned to Leena.
"Why do these things happen to me?" he moaned quietly so that the two couldn't hear. "It was so much easier being the God of Death." |
